Patent number: 6079475Abstract: A security screen with a main frame having radial sections which interconnect with radial sections of a subframe when the screen is closed to strengthen the screen and increase its resistance to displacement due to sustained or impact loads. Brackets attached to the radial sections of the main frame have pins aligned to fit into holes in the radial sections of the subframe when the screen is closed. The brackets and pins serve to prevent the radial section of the main frame from bending inward under a force applied to the screen cloth by effectively combining the strength and rigidity of the main frame and subframe. Thus, the force required to displace the screen cloth a given distance is increased. The increase in strength and rigidity is accomplished without increasing the dimensions of the screen or its supporting structure. Also, the brackets serve to inhibit the security screen from being pried open. Other means to interconnect sections of the main frame and subframe are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 1996Date of Patent: June 27, 2000Assignee: Kane Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Robert H. Patent number: 4373294Abstract: A door for closing a man-door opening in a mine stopping, the door having a pair of knife-edge hinges one at each of the two upper corners of the door for mounting the door to swing about a horizontal axis adjacent the top edge of the man-door opening between open and closed positions. Each hinge comprises a horizontally extending pivot pin and a vertically extending lug comprising a relatively thin metal plate member having a hole therein adapted to receive the pivot pin, whereby the area of engagement between the pivot pin and the lug is relatively small so that corrosion on the hinge at said area of engagement does not inhibit opening of the door.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1980Date of Patent: February 15, 1983Inventors: John M. Kennedy, William R. Kennedy

Patent number: 4358151Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for modifying a permanently mounted rear window of a vehicle to convert a conventional vehicle into a hatch-back vehicle. The apparatus comprises a first frame securable to the original window opening of the vehicle. A second frame receives the original window of the vehicle. A hinge pivotably mounts the second frame relative to the first frame enabling the original window to be pivoted between a closed and an open position. The hinge may be a telescoping type which telescopes upon pivoting the original window into an open position. Such telescoping creates a space between the edge of a window and the body of the vehicle. Air flow coming over the top of the vehicle may then be directed through said space and into an area beneath the open window. A latch is provided for locking the second frame to the first frame in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1979Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Inventor: Herman C. Wood

Patent number: 4255901Abstract: An inner window for the thermal and acoustic insulation of existing windows comprises an adjustable frame having hollow sections connected by elements inserted therein and spacer sections covering the connecting elements, a corresponding pane, and means for securing the pane to the frame in a sealing relation. The frame sections are all of similar cross-sectional dimensional for a uniform frame contour.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1978Date of Patent: March 17, 1981Inventor: Sven-Eric Stenberg

Patent number: 4248489Abstract: A refrigerator door structure comprising a door hingedly mounted on a mullion is disclosed, one or more of which may be mounted in a suitable opening through the wall of a refrigerator compartment without a frame and with or without a starter mullion to close such opening while providing access therethrough. The door and mullion are designed to be inverted to provide for either right-hand or left-hand opening of the door. The packaging of the door structure with appropriate shelving elements is described.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1979Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Inventors: Louis F. Barroero, Socrates Dekas

Patent number: 4137669Abstract: A balancing mechanism for manhole covers uses two sets of conical disc springs, one stronger than the other, mounted on a common pull rod, to balance the cover as it moves from the open vertical position to the closed position. This provides a progressive spring force curve that balances the manhole in any position between the closed position and the vertical position. The balancing mechanism is also provided with an additional set of disc springs that absorb shock when the cover is opened rapidly. The mechanism is preferably mounted on a nozzle protection ring, which allows the system to be installed on existing glass lined vessels without welding, drilling or similar operations which might damage the lining.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1978Date of Patent: February 6, 1979Assignee: Sybron CorporationInventor: Erwin J. Patent number: 4132033Abstract: A variable alignment window assembly for mounting in a window frame of an enclosure which assembly allows greater light transmission and directional air admission into the enclosure, and which, when opened, may be used to shield out unwanted wind, rain, sun or observation from the outside, may be fabricated from one or more window units, each of which units has two vertically upright window panels angularly sealingly joined together along a common vertical side to form an outwardly projecting window unit having a common apical vertical edge and two vertical sides and means for vertically pivotally mounting, said means connecting a point on said window unit adjacent one of said vertical sides to one side of the window frame such that the unit is pivotable between a closed position, in which the vertical sides of the window are in sealing contact with the sides of the window frame, and an open position in which the vertical side of the unit which is not pivotally mounted to the window frame is outwardly remoteType: GrantFiled: September 16, 1977Date of Patent: January 2, 1979Inventor: John D. Patent number: 4126965Abstract: A mounting frame is adapted to be fixed on one side and is formed with a cavity which is open on the opposite side of said mounting frame. The mounting frame comprises an oblique annular peripheral sealing lip, which protrudes on said opposite side and surrounds said cavity and opposite to said cavity defines an undercut annular peripheral groove. Multi-pivot hinge means are accommodated in said cavity and secured on one side to said mounting frame. A sash is secured to said hinge means on the other side thereof and is movable relative to said mounting frame to a closed position and arranged to sealingly contact said sealing lip in said closed position. Said sash has an annular peripheral channel which is open toward said mounting frame and arranged to receive said sealing lip in said closed position.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1978Date of Patent: November 28, 1978Inventor: Tivadar Hoffmann

Patent number: 4116483Abstract: A window for vehicle cabs, especially for vehicles employed in agriculture and in the construction industry, which window is provided with a pane pivotally connected to the vehicle by two upper joints. The pane is at its sides by inner supporting members respectively and selectively held in opened and closed position. The joint members provided on the pane side are exclusively on the inner side of the pane bridged by a transverse yoke member which extends approximately over the upper length of the pane. The transverse yoke member is at its ends provided with lateral legs extending approximately half way down the pane. These legs are operatively engaged by the supporting members.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1976Date of Patent: September 26, 1978Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Peter Kramer, Peter Buchholz
