Patent number: 4258504Abstract: A cable release and latch for a security guard hinged to a window or the like has a spring loaded plunger swedged into an outer frame thereof. An armored cable with a flexible inner cable is connected to the spring loaded plunger and extends to a foot treadle operator and shield which may be mounted on the floor inside the opening. Sufficient length of cable is provided to allow free movement of the guard about its hinges. The security guard may thereby be quickly and easily opened without a key by stepping on the foot treadle operator. If the armored cable is severed, the spring loaded plunger advances further into the keeper which retracts the flexible cable within the armored housing to prevent the manual operation of the latch without further dismantling of the cable.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1978Date of Patent: March 31, 1981Inventor: Harry H. Patent number: 4249345Abstract: A window guard assembly has features that allow it to be released from the inside to allow occupants to escape in case of fire. The window guard assembly also has features that prevent the locking mechanism from being actuated by an intruder on the outside of the building. The guard assembly has a guard mounted to a window frame for covering a window. The guard is pivotally mounted, and a locking mechanism selectively prevents the pivoting of the guard. A latch member controls the locking mechanism. An enclosure is formed around the latch member to prevent access from the exterior. The enclosure has an opening that faces the interior. A pair of doors are located at the opening, one with a vertical hinge, and the other with a horizontal hinge. Both of these doors require opening to reach the latch member. When opened, the doors form a barrier in cooperation with the window frame that requires the intruder to attempt to reach around the doors in order to reach the latch member.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1979Date of Patent: February 10, 1981Inventor: Ricky V. Patent number: 4057935Abstract: A guard grille for a window, door, or the like, has a retainer member which is fixedly attached thereto and which is adapted to releasably engage a latching mechanism which is retained on the wall adjacent to a window frame. The latching mechanism includes an inner latching member which is attached to a slidably mounted rod and an outer retainer collet which in the latched position retains the latching member within the retainer member. A spring is placed between the inner latching member and the retainer member, this spring being compressed when the mechanism is in the latched condition. The mechanism is unlatched by means of a knob located adjacent to the inner wall surrounding the window frame, this knob being attached to the rod connected to the inner latching member. Inward actuation of the knob moves the inner latching member away from the retainer collet against the spring, thereby releasing the latching mechanism, the spring and actuation by the operator driving the grille away from the window.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1977Date of Patent: November 15, 1977Assignees: Rod G.
