  • Publication number: 20030145971
Abstract: In a shoe press apparatus of a papermaking machine, a press part comprises a roll which serves as a pressing member and a shoe. A belt is sandwiched between the roll and the shoe. A lubricant feeder supplies a lubricant from the outside of the shoe at the upstream side of the shoe. A lubricant holding section, comprising a plurality of grooves is provided on the upstream end of the shoe. Lubricant supplied from the lubricant feeder is held in the lubricant holding section of the shoe, and is more reliably supplied to the press part as the belt runs through the press part. The Structure of the lubricant holding section is comparatively simple, and the lubricant holding section decreases friction, thereby saving energy.

  • Publication number: 20030051849
Abstract: A paper machine suction roll has a perforated shell (10) and a static suction box (11) sealed against the inner surface of the shell (10) to create a suction zone (11a) on the roll surface as it rotates. Holes (14) extending through the shell (10) are placed at distances (bi) of varying magnitude from one another such that the hole pattern formed on the inner surface of the shell (10) is irregular. Each hole (14) has a surrounding countersink situated at regular intervals (a) from one another forming a regular countersink pattern on the outer surface of the shell (10). A conventionally drilled suction roll produces very powerful noise peaks at certain multiples of rotation frequency. When the position of the holes is changed at random in particular in the circumferential direction, regular periodicity disappears and the sound produced is a less disturbing humming-type sound.

  • Patent number: 6521090
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and a device for changing the natural frequency of a nip roll construction in a paper or board machine so that the rigidity of one or several loading elements, for example loading cylinder or loading beam, in the nip roll construction is varied. The loading cylinder with adjustable rigidity in accordance with the invention comprises a cylinder (11), into which two pistons (12, 13) have been fitted. The pistons (12, 13) have been attached each of them to a piston rod (14, 15) of its own, which piston rods have been passed through the end walls (11a, 11b) of the cylinder (11). Thus, in the cylinder (11), between the pistons (12, 13), a work pressure space (16) is formed, and at the opposite sides of the pistons (12, 13) counter-pressure spaces (18, 20) are formed.

Abstract: Method and arrangement for automatic monitoring and correction of the regulation pressure of regulation valves in a regulation valve block in a variable-crown roll in a paper machine. The regulation pressure of the regulation valve in each regulation zone in the regulation valve block can be connected alternatingly to a reference pressure detector whose measurement signal is compared with the measurement signal of the actual value of the regulation pressure in the regulation zone concerned. The result of the comparison is stored on the page of monitoring of pressure detectors contained in the central computer system, on which page, in addition to this difference, set values and actual values of the regulation zone pressures as well as the value of the reference measurement are provided.

  • Patent number: 6010443
Abstract: An elastic clamping ring for an enclosed shoe press roll used to clamp the jacket to the gables of the shoe press roll is disclosed. A rigid clamping ring is arranged on the inner side of each gable to form a groove which opens outwardly in the radial direction and in which the elastic clamping ring is received. A stop member is arranged radially outside the elastic clamping ring. By operation of securing members, the rigid clamping ring is forced in the direction of the peripheral gable part in order to squeeze the elastic clamping ring such that it expands outwardly in the radial direction and clamps the edge of the jacket between itself and the stop member. The invention also relates to a shoe press roll that uses an elastic clamping ring with a hexagonal cross section for clamping of the jacket of the shoe press roll to the gables of the shoe press roll.

Abstract: A controlled deflection roll has a roll shell which is hydrostatically radially supported by internally disposed hydrostatic shoes. In order to axially position the roll shell, a mechanical locating link is provided which is disposed externally of the roll shell. The link is coupled at one end to an element attached to the roll shell, and is coupled at an opposite end to a fixed support, such as a floor stand. The end of the roll at which the locating link is disposed is thus axially fixed, while the opposite end of the roll remains free to float. The locating link can be connected to an oscillator to oscillate the roll shell axially during operation so as to distribute any non-uniformities in the roll shell and thus to mitigate their effect on the sheet.
