Abstract: Conventional art has a structure consisting of a roll axis incorporating a structure of fine pores, and a roll unit provided around the outer circumference of a roll axis, wherein internal pressure of the roll axis is dispersed to the roll unit to make a fluid (gas-liquid) suction action, thus reducing the pressure loss and obtaining even distribution of the fluid (gas-liquid). As such, instead of a tubular roll axis, the structure of a roll axis is made fin-shaped or groove-shaped to maximize the action surface area that works on the inner pressure of the roll axis of the roll unit. However, other problems such as inefficiency of the fluid (gas-liquid) suction action and lack of mechanical strength of the roll axis remains.

The roll comprises a main part with a center bore for the removal of center defects or flaws arising from the manufacturing process, e.g., from casing or forging and at least an end part, whereas the end part has no center bore or a center bore with a diameter smaller than the bore diameter of the main part.

  • Patent number: 7887041
Abstract: A feed roller assembly includes a shaft, a plurality of rollers, and a plurality of covers. The rollers are fixed to the shaft at intervals along it. The covers are positioned at both ends of the rollers and surround the shaft, without being fixed to it. Paper dust falls from the outer cylindrical surfaces of the rollers and accumulates on the covers, without coming into direct contact with the cylindrical surface of the shaft. Because the covers are not fixed to the cylindrical surface of the shaft, they rotate at a lower speed than the shaft.

  • Patent number: 7669331
Abstract: A calender roll, which was already in use and has a metallic core with engaged textile material sheets, can be worked for a new use. In the surface of the sheets are cut grooves, to which is subsequently applied a layer structure of synthetic resin-impregnated fibrous material forming a certain thickness over each point of the roll. Onto said layer can be applied a functional covering, for example of rubber.

  • Patent number: 7624646
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for evaluating the properties of material used in the manufacture of pulling rolls. In one embodiment, a method is provided for aligning plates comprising the material along an axis and compressing the plates to form a cartridge. The plates can be compressed by a piston. The cartridge can be rotated by a motor. In one embodiment, the cartridge, while rotating, is contacted with a cutting surface to produce a surface finish on the cartridge. Properties such as compressibility, recovery and resiliency, and hardness can be measured.

  • Patent number: 7582046
Abstract: A combi roll that comprises a roll shaft having a rotationally symmetrical basic shape defined by a central axis, as well as a number of rings in the form of roll rings and spacer rings, each one of which has planar end surfaces that extend between outer and inner, circular limiting edgelines, and that serve as contact surfaces against adjacent rings. At least one of the end surfaces of a ring, preferably a spacer ring, is limited by an inner edgeline, the diameter of which is greater than the outer diameter of the roll shaft. In such a way, the area of the contact surface is reduced while increasing the surface pressure, at the same time as the force transmitting ability of the surface increases by the fact that the radial distance to the center axis is increased.

  • Patent number: 7572215
Abstract: A combi roll comprising a roll shaft and a roll ring mounted on the same against which at least one other ring is axially pressed, such as a spacer ring, the contact surfaces of the rings pressed against each other serving as torque-transferring friction joints. In the individual interface between two end contact surfaces there is distributed a great number of small grains of a material harder than the hardest material of anyone of the rings, the grains having the purpose of partially penetrating into each one of the contact surfaces so as to increase the torque-transferring ability of the friction joint.
