  • Patent number: 6494823
Abstract: A take-out roll, spreader roll or equivalent roll for a web-like material having three parts linked with one another, namely, a middle part and two end parts, one on each side of the middle part. The middle part and end parts are pivotal with respect to one another for the purpose of bending the roll into a desired curved shape. The middle part is constructed to operate as a revolving axle of the roll which is mounted revolvingly on support members by end bearings. The end parts are mounted in the area of their axial inner ends on the middle part by articulation devices. The end parts are further mounted in the area of their axial outer ends, revolvingly and movably in a radial direction on support parts which are separated from the revolving parts of the roll by bearings arranged inward of the end bearings in the axial direction of the roll.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a rolling roller. A conventional rolling roller has had problems that a phenomenon is produced in which a rolling ring is slipped from a shaft upon rolling, and excessive axial pressure is produced upon fixing the rolling ring to the shaft by utilizing an adjusting screw whereby a unreasonable tensile force is applied and therefore a fatigue and damage of the shaft is increased fast. However, the present invention is made such that a large torque can be obtained without slipping operation by coupling a first and second spacers 23,24 and a rolling rings 20,25 which are formed with a projected slant surface a and an inclined groove b, and a unreasonable tensile force is not applied to the shaft due to that so that a fatigue and damage of the shaft can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 5433691
Abstract: An elastic roll member that can be suitably used in OA printers, facsimile machines and in the developing unit and the paper feed unit of an electronic copying machine comprises a shaft member having a circular cross section and an elastic member concentrically attached to the outer periphery of the shaft member. The shaft member is provided with a connecting member which is different in cross section from and larger in diameter than the shaft member along its longitudinal direction, so that by forcing the connecting member into a through-hole provided in the elastic member, the shaft member and the elastic member can be integrally combined. The elastic roll member can be manufactured with ease and at low cost as it requires no complicated adhesion process.

  • Patent number: 5415611
Abstract: A web tension control system includes a stationary rod and a roller attached to the rod by a flexible coupling. A bearing is attached to the inner surface of the roller. The flexible coupling is attached, at one end, to the rod, and, at a second end to the inner portion of the bearing. The inner portion of the bearing is attached to the flexible coupling. One embodiment enables the roller to pivot about a central location where the bearing is attached to the inner surface of the roller. Another embodiment provides full pivotal freedom for the roller to angularly rotate about a central location through a limited range of angular displacement.

  • Patent number: 5370596
Abstract: A joint between an end of a ceramic roll and a metal ferrule compensates for the differences in the thermal expansion properties of the joined materials. A plurality of thermodeformable bimetal elements are positioned in the space between the roll end and the ferrule to expand when the temperature increases to accommodate the greater thermal expansion of the ferrule relative to the roll and to provide a selected coupling strength in the joint at a given operating temperature. The roll is preferably made from a vitreous, fused silica material and is suitable for supporting glass and metal in sheet, strip or plate form at elevated temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5247740
Abstract: A method for forming a longitudinally extending keyway portion in a mill roll having a central bore, in which the keyway portion may be either a keyway or a tab portion. A cutting head is provided, and includes a body and one or more cutting tools extending from the periphery of the cutting head body. The cutting head is driven through the central bore of the mill roll, and the cutting tools form one or more keyway portions adjacent and communicating with the central bore.

  • Patent number: 5224642
Abstract: A pull wheel for a form, fill and seal pouch packaging machine has a hub that includes an axially extending central bore and a circumferentially extending peripheral surface that is located radially outwardly from the bore. First and second circumferentially extending flanges are formed integral with and extend radially outwardly from the peripheral surface of the hub. The first and second flanges are axially spaced apart one from the other on the peripheral surface of the hub forming a groove between them. An integrally formed, annular shaped elastomeric body is located radially outwardly from the hub in part within the groove and in further part over and radially outwardly displaced from the first and second flanges such that the periphery of the elastomeric body is displaced radially outwardly from the periphery of the flanges.

Abstract: The cylindrically-shaped multi-section mountable printing sleeve of this invention is readily axially mountable on and dismountable from a complementary plate cylinder. This sleeve comprises a multi-section cylindrically-shaped sleeve having substantially cylindrically-shaped wall surfaces of substantially constant cross-sectional inner and outer diameter. The multi-section cylindrically-shaped sleeve can include a plurality of complementary tapered sleeve sections, preferably a pair of interconnected inner and outer tapered sleeve sections. The multi-section printing sleeve can also include at least one tapered annular section, preferably at least one tapered annular section connected to a cylindrical outer printing sleeve section.

  • Patent number: 5208955
Abstract: A roll, specifically a paper machine press roll, with a hollow rotatable roll body features a roll shell and on at least one of its two ends a hollow roll journal. A guide body which is stationary or fastened to the roll body extends through the interior of the roll body and forms with the roll shell a channel system through which a tempering medium flows. For purposes of using air as tempering medium, a pressure blower and/or a suction blower are connected to the channel system. The channel system and the blower(s) are so dimensioned that an air flow velocity above 10 m/sec will materialize in the channel system.

  • Patent number: 5182840
Abstract: An epoxy floor roller tool formed by spirally winding a continuous strip of carding cloth having wires protruding outwardly therefrom around a roller core tube. The carding cloth wires are made of a cadmium plated steel which allows the wires to remain rigid even though quite thin and densely packed, whereby when the roller tool is rolled against a wet epoxy material spread over a floor surface, the wires will break even very small, closely spaced air bubbles in the epoxy, allowing the air to be released so that the voids caused by the air bubbles will flow closed without cratering before the epoxy hardens.

  • Patent number: 5177867
Abstract: A method for securing a roll-ring onto the end of a roll-axle, comprising prefitting a roll-ring onto a roll-ring mount, and securing the mount with the roll-ring fitted thereon, onto the end of a roll axle. Securement is effected by passing one single screw-threaded bolt axially through an opening through the roll-ring mount, and tightening the bolt into a screw-threaded recess within the end of the roll-axle. The mount has a cylindrical end part (22) on which a roll-ring (30) can be secured, and the mount has an abutment surface (24) against which a roll-ring is to be pressed. Clamping structure (27, 28) presses the roll-ring against the abutment surface, and projections and recesses (25, 29, 31, 34) non-rotatably secure the mount to an end of a roll-axle. The end of the roll-axle has a conical recess in which a conical external surface on the roll-ring mount shape-matingly fits.
