Patent number: 6544156Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining a desired nip pressure distribution profile in the cross direction of a paper web. The paper web passes through a nip, the latter defined by at least one elastomer covered roll, the covered roll having polarizable particles or magnetic particles embedded therein. Publication number: 20020072457Abstract: When rolling steel sheet and other rolled stock, rattling occurs in certain operating states. This results in reduced quality of the rolled stock and rejects as well as damage to the rolling mill. No improvement was achieved by placing brakes on the cylinders. Electronic monitoring is not a satisfying solution. Given that rattling is a self-starting oscillation, resistance sensors are coupled to the cylinders and/or the rolled stock in order to stabilize the self-starting oscillation modes, modes with negative damping, by means of additional damping. In the example illustrated in FIG. 4, cylinder-shaped, rotating dampers are coupled to the working cylinders. Concentric or disc-shaped layers made of steel and plastic such as those found in layered oscillation absorbers are most effective and adaptable. The arrangement of the working cylinder and the damper illustrated in FIG.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2001Publication date: June 13, 2002Applicant: DOFASCO INC.Inventors: Oskar Bschorr, Hans-Joachim Raida

A hardness reinforcer layer is formed on a surface of the roller body by thermal spraying of ceramic or cermet, so that the roller body surface is prevented from being scratched or ground by the back surface of the film.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 1998Publication date: May 9, 2002Inventors: AKIHIRO SANDA, TAKASHI KUBO, HIDEKI MATSUZAWA, MASAYOSHI WADA

Patent number: 6374494Abstract: The present invention provides a composite roll for cold rolling capable of rolling a cold-rolled steel strip having little edge drop, a cold-rolled stainless steel strip or a bright finish steel strip having excellent surface brightness or a silicon steel strip excellent in magnetic properties without causing breakage of roll, which is a roll in which a sleeve is fitted at a surrounding of a shaft portion with the shaft portion as a central axis and its fabrication method, in which the sleeve is constituted by previously integrating a plurality of pieces of mold members divided by a face intersecting with the central axis of the roll. Further, this is a fit roll in which a sleeve member of an outermost layer is made of WC—Co series hard alloys having Young's modulus of 35000 kgf/mm or more and Co content of 12-50 weight % and is provided with a wall thickness of 3% or more of roll radius and a ratio L/D of a length L of a barrel of the sleeve to a diameter D of the roll falls in a range of 2-10.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1998Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: Kawasaki Steel CorporationInventors: Osamu Sonobe, Hirotaka Kano, Kazuhito Kenmochi, Ikuo Yarita, Akihiko Fukuhara, Nobuaki Gamo

Patent number: 6290633Abstract: A damping roller for printing presses and a method for the production thereof, wherein a heat injected microporous special steel coating is applied to a cylindrical base body, is described. The average pore body of said coating is approximately 5 &mgr;m. A thicker moistening agent film is obtained by capillary force thereby enabling a higher moistening agent flow rate in the damping system of an off-set printing press.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2000Date of Patent: September 18, 2001Assignee: The Morgan Crucible Company PLCInventor: Werner Sondergeld

Patent number: 6254976Abstract: A charging member for amorphous silicon photoreceptors which can be supplied with a uniform and stable resistivity, exhibits an excellent durability and is insusceptible to variation of resistivity against environmental conditions, pinhole leak and contamination on the photoreceptors, showing a good quality and a long life. An electrophotographic charging member for charging a photoreceptor (preferably, mainly composed of amorphous silicon), which comprises a porous anodized aluminum film formed by anodically oxidizing a support the surface of which is made of aluminum or aluminum alloy. In the charging member, it is preferred that the pores in the porous anodized aluminum film be filled with a metal or an electrically conductive material made of an oxyacid salt of transition metal or pure water be attached to the inner wall of the pores in the porous anodized aluminum film. The charging member of the present invention may comprise a surface protective layer on the porous anodized aluminum film.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1994Date of Patent: July 3, 2001Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventor: Masato Ono

Patent number: 6244171Abstract: Calender and process for operating the calender, calender roll and process for forming the calender roll, and a coating for the calender roll. The calender includes at least one calender roll body, and an elastic coating coupled to the at least one calender roll body. The elastic coating includes a colorant to change a color of the elastic coating depending upon a temperature of the elastic coating. The calender roll includes an elastic coating with a colorant, and the elastic coating is adapted to change color depending upon a temperature of the elastic coating. The process for forming the calender roll includes forming an elastic coating that includes a colorant, whereby the elastic coating changes color depending upon a temperature of the elastic coating, and applying the elastic coating to a calender roll body.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1998Date of Patent: June 12, 2001Assignee: Voith Sulzer Papiertechnik Patent GmbHInventor: Franz Kayser
