Abstract: A device for producing a three-dimensional structure from a receiver includes a deposition unit that deposits toner on the receiver. That unit is controlled by a controller to produce a toner pattern on the receiver. A fusing device includes first and second rotatable members having respective, different compliances and a mount that selectively retains the members with respect to each other to form a fusing nip and permits adjustment of respective forces between the members at each end. A directing unit entrains the receiver around the second member so that the receiver passes through the fusing nip. A softening device softens the toner of the toner pattern so that as the second member rotates through successive revolutions, corresponding layer areas of the receiver are defined and the softened toner in each layer area adheres to the second surface of the receiver in an adjacent layer area.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus the continuous production of package blanks. The package blank is intended for delivering books by mail and it is fabricated by drawing from a roll, a web of cardboard (1w), having a surface which is coated with adhesive zones (19) at distances corresponding to the length of a blank. A stud-chain conveyor (14) driven in synchronization with a cardboard-web (1w) chopping device supplies the adhesive zones (19) with paper strips (2p) forming an inner wrapper for the package.

  • Patent number: 5688218
Abstract: A method of folding and sealing the major and minor end flaps of a carton to provide a sift proof container wherein the method includes providing a carton having first and second inside and outside major flaps and a pair of minor flaps, and folding the minor flaps to substantially cover an open end of the carton. Opposite sides of the first inside major flap are then mitered and both the first and second major flaps are positioned in open positions with respect to the carton. The carton is then put in motion and, during such motion, an adhesive pattern is applied from a stationary adhesive nozzle member to selected areas of the second outside major flap and the minor flaps. The first inside major flap is then folded onto the minor flaps followed by the second outside major flap which provides direct sealing contact between the second outside major flap and both minor flaps as well as portions of the first inside major flap so as to provide the sift proof carton.

  • Patent number: 5613932
Abstract: During the transportation of, if appropriate, partly finished hinge-lid boxes (10) on a pack conveyor (11), an inexact positioning of a lid (14) of the hinge-lid box (10) is frequently undesirable. For this purpose, provision is made for restraining holders (30, 31) which enter into the movement path of the hinge-lid boxes (10) and exert a closure force on the lid (14), which is at the front in the transporting direction, of the hinge-lid box (10). The restraining holders (30, 31) are expediently provided in the region of a glue unit for the hinge-lid boxes.

Abstract: A blank for forming a carton is provided. The blank comprises top, rear, bottom, front and cover panels hingedly connected in the order named. End wall-forming flaps are hingedly connected to left and right ends of the main panels. A feed gate engaging notch is formed on any of the eight (8) end wall-forming flaps to avoid smearing of printing ink during the finishing operation. All score lines, offset portions, perforations and breakaway features are formed in the same direction with reference to the paperboard stock.

  • Patent number: 5106359
Abstract: A method is disclosed for erecting flat carton blanks into a tubular configuration, folding the minor flaps inwardly normal to the minor sides in three steps at a first work station, moving the erected carton blank to a second work station while partially folding the major flaps toward the folded minor flaps and applying glue to the minor flaps, further moving the carton blank to a third work station where the major flaps are pressure sealed to minor flaps and then discharging the finished carton from the work area. A machine for performing the method includes unique motor driven chain drive assemblies that enable adjustments to accommodate various size carton and a cam regulated valve system to control application of vacuum to suction cups and compressed air to a glue gun and to pneumatic pistons that move control arms and the like.

  • Patent number: 5024709
Abstract: A method of forming a sift-proof seal for closure of a box having a plurality of folded flaps, the seal being formed by an adhesive strip pattern. The flaps are moved linearly toward a plurality of nozzles which extrude adhesive in a pattern of closely spaced adhesive strips. A flap having such an adhesive pattern is brought into contact with a second flap to compress the pattern of adhesive therebetween. The spacing between adjacent strips of adhesive is such that the folding of the flap causes merging of the adhesive to form a continuous strip of adhesive, thereby forming a box closure. The adhesive pattern is limited to a first outside edge of the first flap, with each remaining outside edges receiving a sift-proof continuous line of adhesive.

  • Patent number: 5016812
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-integrity closure, sift-proof carton [10], a method and an adhesive dispensing apparatus for producing same. Foamed hot melt adhesive is dispensed in parallel strips from dispensing guns onto the flaps [20], [22], [30], [32] of the carton [10], which are thereafter folded down to close the carton [10]. The strips can be spaced so that a continuous tight adhesive seal is formed, especially by providing a strip pattern interdigitating when the flaps contact each other. Since all strips are provided in parallel, while the carton is moved with respect to the dispensing apparatus, application of adhesive is fast and reliable.

  • Patent number: 4976672
Abstract: A machine or machine section for squaring folded container blanks has a conveyor for conveying slotted and partially folded container blanks. A folding device completes folding of each container blank while being conveyed by the conveyor. A gauge plate is inserted in a slot in each of the slotted and partially folded container blanks. A mechanism moves the gauge plate in timed sequence with the conveyor, inserts the gauge plate in the slot before completion of folding of the respective blank in order to "square" the folded blank, and then withdraws the gauge plate from the slot. Overlapping flaps of each folded blank may be tacked together during "squaring" by drops of hot melt adhesive which subsequently hold the flat folded blanks square while the conventional slow drying water soluble glue dries. The "squaring" arrangement may be incorporated in a conventional gluer/folder machine.

  • Patent number: 4950218
Abstract: The invention relates to a multiple pot comprising individual pots interconnected by connector portions so as to be capable of being pulled out. The multiple pot is used to raise and transplant seedlings of plants. The invention also relates to a method of fabricating the pot. The pot is designed especially to promote growth of roots across the side walls of the individual pots after transplantation. Also, the resistance encountered when the multiple pot is unfolded is reduced. Further, the individual pots are uniform in size. These feature arise from the facts that the connector portions are formed by applying a waterproof paste discontinuously and that a water-soluble paste is not applied around the edges of the individual pots created when the multiple pot is unfolded. Hence, a coating of the paste is formed in none of these portions. The multiple pot is fabricated by continuously carrying out three steps.
