Abstract: The composite structure includes a fiber-containing layer, such as a fiberboard layer or other layer having fibers from natural and/or synthetic sources, and a mineral-containing layer covering the fiber-containing layer. The fiber-containing layer and mineral-containing layer can be shaped, sized and manufactured such that the composite structure formed therefrom is capable of being machined to form a storage article. The composite structure has advantages in that it can improve whiteness, opacity, ink adhesion, materials reduction, barrier properties, recyclability, and printability. The composite can reduce polymer mass requirements for heat seal, barrier, and fiber adhesion. Further improvements include economics, pliability, and flexibility that is increased over the pliability of the fiber-containing layer alone.

  • Patent number: 6849037
Abstract: A symmetrical preform that provides protection to an equipment component (or other fragile or breakable item), provides ease in use during pre-packing and packing of an equipment component for transport, does not require the need for additional packing components in combination with the packaging assembly, and is economically suited for its end use, is provided for. Accordingly, the present invention provides a method for making an integral, one piece packing assembly having symmetrical characteristics and being comprised of a flexible, corrugated-shaped material that is capable of protectively encapsulating, in a predetermined arrangement, a fragile component to ready for further movement, transport or packaging.

  • Patent number: 6827678
Abstract: Known methods for producing folded containers, especially folding boxes, from blanks use folding-box gluing machines and accessory units comprising machine elements (2, 6, 10, 13) for processing and/or conveying the blanks or containers, which can be manually positioned to fit different blank sizes. Measuring devices (17) for determining the actual position of the machine elements (2, 6, 10, 13) to be positioned and a memory unit for storing the desired positions for different blank sizes are also known. To be able to support a machine adjuster in the adjustment of positions the invention provides for both the memory unit for the desired positions and each measuring device (17) for the actual positions to be connected to a computing element which calculates the differences between the desired positions and the actual positions.

  • Patent number: 6802802
Abstract: A carrier for beverage containers formed of a sheet material such as plastic or paperboard which includes a bottom panel attached to side panels, a pair of opposed end panels connected to the bottom and side panels, and a central handle formed of two halves folded together in a first position for ease in carrying. The handle is pivotal to an open position along its top fold line, allowing the carrier to spread outwardly to form a central cavity capable of holding ice for the purpose of cooling the beverage containers. The top panels are provided with a plurality of openings, for example, six or eight, each of which is adapted to receive a beverage container. The method for forming the beverage container is disclosed.

Abstract: There is described a stamping machine for the separation of shaped pieces, formed by cutting a sheet of material, from the remainder of the material. The machine incorporates a male die (13) with a plurality of projections corresponding to the shape of said shaped pieces. The male die comprises a plate of rigid synthetic foam material from which said projections extend. The projections are formed integrally with the plate. The die may be manufactured by machining material away from a plate of rigid synthetic foam material, eg using a routing machine operating under computer numerical control.

  • Publication number: 20040132600
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a dimensionally stable and impermeable packaging container from a laminate comprising at least a thermoformable base layer devoid of liquid or moisture soaking properties, a barrier layer and, adjacent to the barrier layer, a laminate layer directed towards the inside of the container. The layers are partially adhered together in a first step to form a laminate. The container is given its desired shape by folding the laminate. Subsequently the folded container is heat treated by subjecting it to autoclaving or hot filling in order to increase the adhesion between the layers and to impart mechanical rigidity to the container.

Abstract: A standup bags made of a flexible material and methods of producing these standup bags. In particular, the standup bags have at least one substantially flat surface which is free of seams and folds. When the bag is filled with a flowable substance, the pressure exerted by the fluid upon the flat surfaces allows the bag to be self-standing. Additionally, the standup includes at least one contour structure that defines the geometry of the bag and also contributes to the standup bag's ability to be self-standing when even partially filled with a flowable substance.
