Abstract: A workstation for use with a turret type cup making machine is disclosed. The workstation is designed for sealing and finishing the bottom regions of paperboard style cups. A finishing wheel is mounted to a pair of nested housings that are configured to move the finishing wheel in a radially outward direction when one housing is rotated with respect to the other. Thus, the finishing wheel is moved longitudinally into the recessed bottom of a cup and then one housing is rotated with respect to the other forcing the finishing wheel radially outwardly until it contacts the bottom of the cup including portions of the sidewall blank and the bottom blank. This radial movement squeezes the cup bottom between the finishing wheel and an annular abutment wall. • Patent number: 4394209
Abstract: An improved arrangement for weldingly connecting an annular connecting edge of a synthetic thermoplastic bottom to a cylindrical thermoplastic section to form a cylindrical container having one open end and one end which is closed by the bottom. The arrangement includes a supporting frame having a pair of confronting vertical wall portions. A first disc is rotatably mounted via a first shaft in a first vertical wall portion. A second hollow shaft is coaxially slidably and freely rotatably mounted with respect to the first shaft in a second confronting vertical wall. A counter pressure second disc is coaxially slidably freely rotatably mounted in the second hollow shaft. The thermoplastic bottom is adapted to be clampingly held between the first and second discs. At least one freely rotatable anvil roller is mounted on the second hollow shaft for engaging the connecting edge of the thermoplastic bottom or the inside wall of the cylindrical thermoplastic section.

  • Patent number: 4342562
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a package from a package blank which includes a series of lateral surfaces and end wall sections connected by fold lines are disclosed. The method disclosed includes folding the package blank along fold lines between the lateral surfaces, moving such partially formed package blank along a predetermined path, and rotating the package blank while it is moving along that path while at the same time sequentially folding the end wall sections along a second set of fold lines at one end of the package so as to form an end wall surface at that end.

  • Patent number: RE33573
Abstract: A carton or package for packaging semi-fluid material which can be hardened by freezing, such as ice cream, sherbet, and the like, is formed from specially constructed integral carton blank and a special process for assembling the same. The carton blank has a front panel, a bottom panel, a rear panel, a cover panel, and a front cover sealing flap articuated one to the other in the order named. With end-forming flaps and glue-flap extensions extending laterally therefrom adapted to be glued together to form inner and outer walls and side-cover flaps. The bottom outer wall-forming flap is glued to the inner wall-forming flaps by glue strips along the side edges of the latter, where they are joined to the front and rear panels, and the side-cover flap has a tuck-in tab adapted to be tucked in under the bottom outer wall-forming flap between the glue strips.
