Patent number: 6575886Abstract: A packaging machine for loading of individual articles into a product cartons that includes a rotary blank feeder and a rotary board erector. The rotary blank feeder includes a plurality of feeder arms each having a vacuum head. The feeder arms are each rotatable about a common axis of rotation and the entire folding arm assembly is rotatable about an offset secondary axis of rotation. Each vacuum head of the rotary blank feeder moves into contact with the lowermost planar carton blank contained with an overhead hopper and transfers the carton blank to a board feed conveyor. From the board feed conveyor, each carton blank enters into a rotary board erector having a plurality of folding arms rotatable at variable speeds about a common axis of rotation. The folding arms of the rotary board erector partially fold each planar carton blank for loading with individual articles.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2001Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: Nigrelli Systems, Inc.Inventors: Gary D. Patent number: 4636184Abstract: An arbor guiding apparatus is disclosed. It has a plurality of arbors arranged at least in two rows of arbors and in tandem on a rotary packing drum with respect to its axial direction. It also has a guiding device of the arbors in the radial direction. The guiding device includes supporting members axially supporting the arbors as well as connecting rods. One of the connecting rods include a threeway shaft at its one end, one way of the shaft being for engagement with a cam follower for guiding the arbor in the first arbor row while another way of the shaft being for engagement with a cam follower for guiding the arbor in the second arbor row. It further includes a device for effecting a relative movement of the arbors in the first and second arbor rows. The relative movement device essentially includes a pinion interposed therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1984Date of Patent: January 13, 1987Assignee: Japan Tobacco Inc.Inventors: Tomizou Nagata, Norikuni Miyaoka

Patent number: 4549876Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming a hinged or clamshell type carton from a paperboard blank includes a feed conveyor for transferring the blank to a forming die. A hinge erecting conveyor is provided in the feed conveyor guide path to erect the hinge. A pair of pusher fingers form a shuttle conveyor in the guide path cooperating to transfer the partially erected blank to the die. Side channel guides arranged along the conveyor guide path maintain the partially erected paperboard blank in alignment with the erecting conveyor. Side channel guide extensions converge to maintain contacting engagement with the blank as selected carton panels converge during hinge formation and to support the blank in contacting registration on the face of the die and in the forming head path. A hinge gathering guide with hold down rails positioned above the erecting conveyor accurately locates and positions the carton blank and hinge.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1982Date of Patent: October 29, 1985Assignee: Kliklok CorporationInventors: Thomas R. Patent number: 4487596Abstract: A flip-top box is folded from a one-piece skillet by bringing a contents retainer panel (R) into overlapping relationship with a front panel (C.sub.1); thereafter pressing the skillet into a rectangular opening of a die (70), to cause certain panels of the skillet to stand perpendicular to rear panels of the container and lid, folding portions of the skillet projecting from the die into a plane parallel spaced from the rear panel and causing other portions to enter the die; and pressing the partially folded skillet into a rectangular opening of a second die opposite the first die to fold down the outside panels of the box to complete the box formation.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1982Date of Patent: December 11, 1984Assignee: Wilkinson Sword LimitedInventors: Michael G. Patent number: 4449350Abstract: Apparatus and method for making sealed packages for spreadable products includes means for transporting a relatively stiff base member carrying a spreadable product in the approximate center thereof, means for feeding a relatively thin flexible sheet material and for cutting such flexible material into predetermined lengths and for feeding such cut lengths to a rotatable vacuum drum having a plurality of die stations. There is a first tamper which cooperates with the die at the die station as the stations rotate past the tamper to shape each cut length of flexible material into a predetermined three-dimensional form. The three-dimensional form is transported by the vacuum drum to a position over the stiff base and the spreadable product thereon where the formed flexible sheet is released by the vacuum drum and cohesively joined along its outwardly extended edges to the base member to enclose the spreadable product positioned thereon.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1982Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Inventor: Redmond Sanford
