Publication number: 20130029824Abstract: A pallet tier cap forming apparatus is provided for forming a horizontal planar paperboard blank into a pallet tier cap. The blank includes a generally rectangular center panel having four edges, and four flaps connected by fold lines with the center panel edges, respectively. A blank transport device initially displaces the blank laterally in a first diagonal direction for simultaneous engagement with a first orthogonally arranged pair of drag walls, and vertically upwardly, thereby to break downwardly about associated fold lines a first pair of adjacent flaps of the blank. The blank is further displaced laterally in the first direction, thereby to reversely fold back the first pair of flaps about the associated wall junctions toward an acute angle relative to the blank center panel. The blank is then displaced in the opposite diagonal direction, and the forming steps are repeated to fold downwardly simultaneously a second pair of flaps.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2011Publication date: January 31, 2013Applicant: FLEXICELL INC.Inventors: Johannes J.M. de Koning, Geoffrey J. Patent number: 4754541Abstract: An apparatus for joining and folding container sections to form a hinged container. Two container sections are transported in end-to-end relation on a conveyor and the downstream section is engaged with a stop while a pusher member is pivoted into engagement with the trailing edge of the upstream section to force the sections together and engage snap fitted hinge elements on the two sections. The hinged container is then discharged from the first conveyor onto a second conveyor located at a level beneath the first conveyor and operating at a slower speed than the first conveyor. As the leading section of the hinged container falls from the upper conveyor onto the lower conveyor the increased speed of the upper conveyor will fold the trailing section over the leading section to provide a closed hinged container. The closed container then passes under a spring loaded pressure member which ensures that locking elements on the two container sections are fully engaged.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1987Date of Patent: July 5, 1988Assignee: Dorner Mfg. Patent number: 4279609Abstract: Blanks which are made of cardboard or the like and wherein the neighboring panels are flexible relative to each other are converted first into flat tubular preforms which are thereupon expanded prior to a change of orientation and introduction into a filling machine. The conversion is carried out on a horizontal support during stepwise transport of successive blanks along a stationary elongated one-piece flat pattern having progressively narrower portions at several successive deforming stations. At the first deforming station, a lap which is integral with one outermost panel of each blank is flexed relative to the respective outermost panel; at the second deforming station, the lap and the respective outermost panel are folded over the adjacent portion of the pattern; and the other outermost panel is bonded to the lap at the third deforming station.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1980Date of Patent: July 21, 1981Assignee: Hauni-Werke Korber & Co.
