  • Patent number: 9039590
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are described for providing a bag having an internally reinforced header. A reinforcing material is combined with a bag material to provide strength to the reinforced header. The reinforcing material and the bag material are aligned during manufacturing such that the reinforcing material is positioned in a header area of a bag formed by folding the bag material. A seal that passes through both the reinforcing material and the bag material retains the reinforcing material within the bag header. A bag handle may then be punched into the header through the bag material and the reinforcing material.

In the inventive method, which is adapted to produce pouches having a limited amount of fusible material, a heat-sealable cord is arranged on a web forming confronting side surface of each pouch. Those confronting side surfaces are fused by heating the heat-sealable cord. The present invention furthermore provides a pouch, in particular containing a brewable or extractable commodity such as tea, with a pocket defined between confronting side surfaces of a web. The pouch of the present invention can have a limited amount of fusible material as the confronting side surfaces are joined by solidified melt of a heat-sealable cord arranged in vicinity of at least one edge of the pouch.

  • Publication number: 20150030262
Abstract: A method for forming a bag with a carrying handle from a continuous web of flexible material is described. The handle has an inactivated position, in which it extends substantially in a cross machine direction of the web, and an activated or in-use position, substantially perpendicular to the inactivated position. The method permits attachment of the handles to the web before the bag is formed, without a risk of inadvertently cutting the handle. The activated position of the handle provides optimum force distribution among the materials of the bag, thus minimizing or eliminating the need for using reinforcement materials.

  • Patent number: 7401450
Abstract: This invention concerns an infusion bag, especially for tea, which has a top part with folded down corners and a middle part folded over it, to which a string with two free ends is attached that goes from one side of the top part through a hole in the folded down parts forming a loop on the other side of the top part and comes back, whereby the two free ends are drawn up through the loop laid over the top edge of the infusion bag and pulled to form a knot. The solution in the invention is characterized by the fact that two holes are made in the top part at a lateral distance next to one another, on the left and right of the longitudinal axis of the bag; each hole goes through a folded down corner and the middle of the top part; by the fact that the string forms a loop and one end goes through one hole and the other end through the second hole; by the fact that the loop is laid over the top edge of the infusion bag, and both ends of the string go up through the loop to form a double knot.

  • Patent number: 7191576
Abstract: A device for making it possible to apply to a pack, moved along a conveyor, a handle (n) of nominal length L situated at the end of a tape. The tape includes a succession of handles (n+i), each handle comprising two adhesive ends and a central part. The device includes a feeder to move the tape as far as a rotary application arm having a length which is equal to the nominal length L. This arm is able to deposit one adhesive end of the handle n on one face of the pack and then the second end of the handle n on a second face of the pack. The device further includes an optical cell for detecting an offset in the position of a handle n+i, an actuator for elongating the length of the rotary arm beyond the nominal length L, making it possible during a rotation of this arm to draw a portion of tape having a length greater than the nominal length, and a control unit.

Abstract: Device and method for mounting ends of a handle into slits of a package. The device includes guide rails which guide and orient the ends of the handle from a first position to a second position, wherein, in the second position, the ends of the handle are oriented in a direction that is perpendicular to the slits of the package. The method includes moving the handle towards the guide rails, guiding the handle with the guide rails until the handle assumes the second position, and inserting the ends of the handle into the slits of the package. • Patent number: 6932754
Abstract: The invention concerns a rotary type bag manufacturing machine which feeds continuously material paper (R) to form angulated bottom bags (B) with handles (T) in which a top edge (S2) with the handles (T) pasted can be folded toward an inside in the manufacturing process. Material paper (R) wound in a roll is continuously fed out. After forming lateral slits (15) and Letter-J-shaped nicks (16) on the material paper (R) by an incising device (4), reinforcing papers (T1) for handles (T) formed by a handle forming device 2 are pasted. Then, a cutting device (6) cuts off the material paper (R) on a cut line aligned with the lateral slits (15) to thereby form the material paper (R) with the handles (T) which remains unfolded in a plane. A cut end portion (S2) with each handle (T) pasted is folded toward an inside to invisibly cover each reinforcing paper (T1) for the handle (T). Thereafter, angulated bottom paper bags (B) are formed through a paper tube forming process and a bottom folding process.

Abstract: The rope handle forming machine is made of a cylinder having a channel therein, an U-shaped forming plate mounted along a horizontal plane tangent to the top surface of the cylinder on one side of the cylinder, and a D-shaped forming plate mounted in a same plane as the U-shaped forming plate on the other side of the cylinder, facing the U-shaped forming plate. A rope feeder is provided along the horizontal axis of the cylinder to feed a rope stock into the channel. A cutoff blade is used to severe a rope length from the rope stock. A push-up blade mounted in the channel moves upward when the cylinder rotates and the channel reaches a twelve o'clock position, to raise the rope length above the mentioned plane. The forming plates are movable toward each other along the plane to retain and form the rope length into an U-shaped form.

Abstract: For the production of loop handle shopping bags based on semi-tube sheeting consisting of thermoplastic plastic, an edge strip of the semi-tube sheeting is folded onto itself and reinforcement warps, consisting of a weld-friendly thermoplastic plastic that provides a good weld, are attached on the interior sides of the edge areas by means of glueing or welding at a distance corresponding to the width of the shopping bags to be produced. Subsequently, the edge strip is folded back so that the added reinforcement warps are positioned back-to-back. Double-layer handle strips are positioned in a U-shape and placed between the reinforcement warps with their end areas of the free shanks, and welded together with the edge areas through the reinforcement warps between welding devices. The shopping bags are then separated from the semi-tube sheeting by means of separating weld seams.
