  • Patent number: 5452844
Abstract: Bag of the type obtained from a single elongate planar cutting presenting two parallel long edges with the cutting being backfolded in order to define the two faces of the bag. The faces meet at a transverse bottom formed by the medial portion of the cutting and the two faces of the bag are joined edge to edge by their two long edges and the small side opposite to the bottom. The bag is characterized in that the bottom is comprised of two triangular facets which are opposite back to back from the central region of the bottom and the two triangular facets are bent back towards the internal volume of the bag. The apex of the triangle is oriented toward the outside and meets the corresponding long edge of the bag. Each long edge of the bag is formed by edge joining of the two faces and comprises, in the zone between the triangle apex and the bag base, four thicknesses or layers from the initial cutting, sealed to each other.

  • Patent number: 5433692
Abstract: A gusset forming machine includes a mandrel having a support surface on which a blank for the gusset is manually mounted, and one or more pusher assemblies which are driven into contact with the mandrel to deform the blank, thus forming a gusset. Preferably, each pusher assembly includes a holding blade which prevents movement of the blank relatively to the mandrel during the gusset forming operation, and a plurality of pushing blades which deform the blank into valleys formed between adjacent ridges formed on the support surface of the mandrel, thus forming the gusset. The mandrel is preferably movable into and out of alignment with the pusher assembly or assemblies. Multiple pusher assemblies are preferably provided which extend at angles from one another and produce a multi-sided gusset in a single operation.

Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for forming notches at a fold for the corner portion of an expandable gusset envelope, such as a file pocket. A pleated gusset member is placed on a ridged upper surface of a table structure of the apparatus, thereby initiating operation of the apparatus. The bottom portion of the pleated gusset member is clamped against the top of the table. Pressing rolls bend the end portion of the clamped gusset member downwardly against a ridged side surface of the table. The pressing rolls then are rolled upwardly with respect to the pleats of the end portion and form notches adjacent the fold at the clamped bottom portion of the gusset member. A plurality of stacked and gusset members can be notched at one time.
