Assembling Of Distinct Members Patents (Class 493/297)
  • Patent number: 11352190
Abstract: A machine for converting a sheet stock material into a relatively less dense dunnage product includes both (a) a helical pre-form assembly having a cylindrical mandrel with a longitudinal axis and a guide member for guiding the sheet stock material from a supply thereof into a helical path along and around the mandrel so as to form a helical pre-form that rotates around the longitudinal axis and advances parallel to the longitudinal axis; and (b) a restriction in the path of the pre-form that slows the advance and rotation of the pre-form past the restriction, the restriction causing the pre-form to retard longitudinal advancement, to twist upon itself, and to permanently deform as it moves past the restriction, thereby longitudinally and helically crumpling the pre-form.

  • Patent number: 9039590
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are described for providing a bag having an internally reinforced header. A reinforcing material is combined with a bag material to provide strength to the reinforced header. The reinforcing material and the bag material are aligned during manufacturing such that the reinforcing material is positioned in a header area of a bag formed by folding the bag material. A seal that passes through both the reinforcing material and the bag material retains the reinforcing material within the bag header. A bag handle may then be punched into the header through the bag material and the reinforcing material.

  • Patent number: 4978406
Abstract: A process for producing a tube having a strength imparting tubular body and a tubular lining member covering and bonded to the inner surface of the tubular body comprises the steps of forming mandrel contact portions on a synthetic resin surface of a lining sheet in the form of a strip and noncontact portions in the surface distributedly among the contact portions, helically winding the lining sheet around a mandrel with the synthetic resin surface positioned inside and with the sheet lapping over itself, bonding the lap to the underlying portion of the wound sheet to form the lining member, and moving the tubular lining member axially of the mandrel in a direction to remove the member therefrom. The lining member formed around the mandrel is smoothly movable axially thereof by virtue of the presence of the contact and noncontact portions distributedly formed over the sheet resin surface.

  • Patent number: 4865891
Abstract: A surface layer is applied to an elongated, deformable hollow profile. The profile originally has at least one wall portion which is curved as seen in cross section. The profile is advanced to a device for applying the surface layer and pressed so as to deform the curved wall portion into a shape which, as seen in cross section, is substantially straight. The surface layer is applied to this wall portion while it is in the substantially straight shape, and the profile is then at least substantially returned to its original shape.

  • Patent number: 4755164
Abstract: An applicator for tampons has a sleeve for the tampon and for a portion of a reciprocable pusher which can expel the tampon by causing the latter to flex outwardly a set of domed petals at the front end of the sleeve. The sleeve is formed by advancing a strip of degradable material longitudinally, by forming spaced-apart portions of the strip with transversely extending rows of hourglass-shaped webs, by converting the strip into a tubular envelope with a seam extending in parallelism with the axis of the envelope, by severing the envelope across the rows of webs so that the envelope yields a series of tubes each having a circumferentially extending set of petals (halves of webs) at each of its ends, and by cutting each tube midway between its ends to form shorter tubes (sleeves) each of which has a set of petals at one end. The petals are thereupon domed to close the respective ends of the sleeves and the other ends of the sleeves are formed with indentations which center the respective pushers.

  • Patent number: 4690668
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for heat welding a butt seam on a tube of packaging material, in which the welding heat is generated by applying a high-frequency alternating electromagnetic field of a pair of induction coils. To prevent current arcing at the cut edges of a metal inlay of the packaging material in the vicinity of the abutting edges of a sheet of packaging material, the edges are guided spaced apart from one another by a predetermined distance. To this end, the apparatus has a separating blade, which in the operative range of the electromagnetic alternating field protrudes in between the abutting edges of the sheet of packaging material and between the induction coils.

  • Patent number: 4626235
Abstract: Apparatus for assembling axially elongated, diametrically expandable and contractible product bags axially within energy sleeves of elastomeric material which are at least partially diametrically expanded at assembly. The apparatus comprises three, (3) energy sleeve expansion stations where at the elastomeric sleeve is sequentially expanded by the insertion of expansion rods and/or tubes therewithin. From the third station the energy sleeves proceed to an assembly station with an expansion tube therewithin. At the assembly station a product bag is inserted axially within the expansion tube in the energy sleeve with an end portion protruding from the tube. A first mechanism moves the energy sleeve axially relative to the tube so that an end portion surrounds and frictionally grips a part of the protruding product bag.

  • Patent number: 4622027
Abstract: A method for making a capture and containment bag having a large reservoir that tapers into an elongated conduit wherein the reservoir is formed by joining two heat sealable panels along their side edges to form a linear end edge and then joining such linear end edge to the flared end of a narrow heat sealable strip with a pair of longitudinally extending side edges of such narrow strip then joined to form a conduit. The two panels are then joined along the remaining side edges as a continuation of the joining of the sides of the narrow strip to form a bag with a large storage reservoir and a narrow elongated discharge control conduit.

  • Patent number: 4546911
Abstract: A wound double-walled container and method of manufacturing the same from coated paper includes two blanks which are placed one above the other and which form the container walls. The blanks are arranged mutually offset in such a manner that narrow foldable strips project laterally and foladble rim portions extend at the top and bottom, which are folded over for sealing the inwardly and outwardly and endwise disposed cut edges. The folding-over takes place either after the winding of the blanks or while the individual blanks are still flat, which thereafter are wound separately one after the other about a winding mandrel and are sealed.

  • Patent number: 4474564
Abstract: In a machine for forming a continuous tube which is then cut up into sections, for example to make containers, a plurality of bands of fibrous, cellulosic, metallic, plastic or other material are drawn from supply reels and pass through a gluing and labelling section where adhesive is applied to one side of the bands and labels are applied to the outer face of the center band. After application of the adhesive and labels, the bands, while continuing to move forwardly, are assembled in superposed relation with the bands laterally displaced relative to one another so that the edges of the assembly of bands are stepped. The bands are pressed together in a narrow central width only so as to bond central portions together while leaving side portions unbonded.
