Abstract: A secondary locking system for the drop side of a crib comprises an elongated three sided channel bracket having first and second parallel sides with a third side perpendicular to said first and second sides, said third side having a mounting slot by which said bracket can be mounted to a crib leg so that the drop side can be raised and lowered within the bracket. The first and second sides have at least a pair of horizontally aligned opposed holes, and a slidable locking pin adapted to be removably passed through said opposed holes, whereby when the locking pin is passed through said opposed holes the locking pin prevents the raising or lowering of the drop side, and when the locking pin is removed from said opposed holes, the drop side can be raised and lowered.

Abstract: A foldable quadrantal corner baby crib including five wheeled posts, a crib floor and top interconnecting frame pieces. The quadrantal crib has the versatility to be placed in a corner of the baby room and is safe in use. Another attribute is the facility of multiple cribs being grouped in a bedroom for multiple births while minimizing the space occupied by the cribs. Only nine fasteners are required for assemblage and disassemblage of the canopy framed crib. When folded, the crib can be stored under a bed.

Abstract: A spring loaded pin is provided at both ends of the bottom rails of the movable side and an engageable head is fixedly mounted on each of the posts between which the movable side is mounted. The spring loaded pin is allowed to ride in a guiding track which is formed of a vertical elongated section and a return section provided at the top of the elongated section and as a continuation of the latter, the track being provided in the two posts mentioned above. A shoulder is formed in the elongated section above the junction between the return section and the elongated section. The track has sloping down and rising portions to exert different resistances against the spring loaded pin indicating to the operator that locking is about to take place, that the movable side is about to be unlocked or is in the process of being lowered. This device is safer and easier to operate than presently known devices.

Abstract: An electric cradle including a crib, a main support disposed under the crib to support the crib and two swinging frames pivotally connecting the main support with two ends of the crib. A swinging mechanism is used to swing the swinging frames so as to swingingly drive the crib to form an electric cradle. The two swinging frames can be alternatively removed from the crib and the length of the main support can be adjusted in order to permit direct securing of the two ends of the crib to the main support. In addition, the height of the side fences of the cribs can be adjusted to meet the standing height of an infant, whereby the electric cradle can be transformed into a fixed crib.

Abstract: A crib comprising a blow molded headboard panel vertically positioned and constituting the head end of the crib. A blow molded footboard panel is vertically positioned and constitutes the foot end of the crib with the footboard being essentially parallel with the headboard and with a space therebetween. A pair of blow molded side panels are provided with each of the side panels vertically positioned and spaced in parallel relationship with respect to each other and with the ends of the side panels removably coupled with respect to the ends of the headboard and footboard to form a generally box-like configuration.

Abstract: A safety barrier for railing systems for preventing entrapment, serious injury or death resulting from bodily penetration through the baluster support members of a railing system. The barrier substantially covers the horizontal space between vertical support members and the vertical space equal to the height of the balusters by weaving a mesh scrim or web of poly-vinyl-chloride in primary form plasticized between and along the balusters resulting in taut coverage of the open spacing. A border fabricated of reinforced nylon, canvas or like material is joined to each end of the barrier, having a plurality of openings to allow a means for tightly securing the barrier to an end wall, post or any combination thereof. The barrier is adaptable to lesser dimensions in terms of length and height.

Abstract: An essentially weightless hospital youth crib side gate having a latch mechanism requiring a compound sequential motion for release. A pair of spring powered reels are attached at opposite ends of the lower horizontal frame member of a side gate of a hospital youth crib and the spring powered wire cables are attached to the side gate crib track which is mounted to the crib frame. The spring powered reels counterbalance the weight of the side gate producing an essentially "weightless" side gate. The gate further includes a latch release mechanism whereby a push button must first be fully depressed before a pair of latch handles can be brought together to fully release the latch rods which hold the side gate in a predetermined position. Only after both motions have been sequentially performed can the side gate be raised or lowered. Operating the latch requires only a single adult hand and is very difficult to be operated by a child, even if the child were to use both hands.

Abstract: An adjustable means for a railing side of a child's cot, includes at least four strips each fixed on a post of the cot, at least two holes and two openings are defined in each strip. An adjusting element comprises a vertical part and a horizontal part in which an activating element, a connecting element and a spring are received therein. The connecting element has a first end having a connecting hook disposed thereon which engages to the opening of the strip, and a second end has a recess defined therein for connecting one end of the spring, and a tunnel is defined in the connecting element vertically. The activating element has a base on which a projection with a hook part formed thereon and a block with a bevel surface are projecting therefrom and are received in the tunnel, the hook part is engaged to a periphery defining the tunnel.

Abstract: A baby crib with pull-out mattress (10) that is designed with a mattress frame (20) and mattress (22) that can be pulled outwardly away from the front perimeter of the crib. With the mattress (22) completely exposed, the mattress covering(s) can be easily and quickly removed and changed. This feature aids in convenience and ease as well as preventing back aches that frequently occur from bending over the crib's front rail to change the mattress covering(s). To allow the mattress frame (20) and mattress (22) to be slid in and out, they are attached to a first and second horizontal slide assembly (26). The crib (10) design also includes a retractable leg assembly (30) that is normally placed in a retracted position underneath the mattress frame (20). However, when the horizontal slide assembly (26) is slid forwardly, the retractable leg assembly (30) automatically causes a retractable leg (30A) to pivot downward to support the extended mattress frame (20).

Abstract: A device for positioning a slidable crib rail including a sliding rail having an upper and a lower locating hole, and an upper and a lower arresting block located closer to an end of the sliding rail than the upper and the lower locating hole respectively. The device also includes a moving member for positioning the crib rail along the sliding rail. This moving member includes a control member having a retaining device retaining the moving member in the locating holes of the sliding rail, and a movable plate having a first position for biasing the retaining means in a position in which the retaining means cannot retain the moving member in the locating holes and a second position which does not influence the retaining means. The upper arresting block of the sliding rail is situated to move the movable plate from its second position to its first position, and the lower arresting block of the sliding rail is situated for moving the movable member from its first position to its second position.

Abstract: The present invention provides a novel baby crib having means to mount a mattress platform at a variety of selected heights above the floor and a gate stop adjustable between an operative and an inoperative orientation. In the operative orientation, the gate stop prevents the gate from being lowered to its normally lowest position. In the inoperative orientation, the gate stop does not interfere with gate travel. The invention in a first embodiment provides means so that when the mattress is in the maximum height position, the gate stop must be in the operative orientation, thus preventing the gate from being lowered beyond the mattress height position.

Abstract: A lifting gate controlling device for controlling the front lifting gate of a baby's crib, comprising one pair of upper mounting bars respectively secured to the front two opposite corner posts of a baby's crib at an upper level, one pair of lower mounting bars respectively secured to said two opposite corner posts at a lower level, one pair of upper sliding blocks respectively movably mounted on said upper mounting bars to hold a transverse top rail of said lifting gate, and one pair of lower sliding blocks respectively movably mounted on said lower mounting bars to hold a transverse bottom rail of said lifting gate, wherein said upper mounting bars each has a V-shaped track incorporated in a P-shaped sliding track on a front face thereof for sliding either one of said upper sliding blocks by a sliding rod; said lower mounting bars each has a stop bolt at an upper end thereof to confine the upward movement of said lower sliding blocks.

Abstract: A baby crib has a first and a second gate which are substantially planar, parallel and vertical, are spaced apart from each other and are slidingly attached to posts so as to move in a vertical direction between the bottom open position and a top closed position. A planar mattress support platform is positioned between said gates and is releasably attached to said posts being perpendicular thereto. A stop means is fixedly attached to said mattress support platform and protrudes horizontally therefrom, and keeper means is fixedly attached to said first gate in a position to engage said stop means when said gate is supported in a position intermediate said top closed position and said bottom open position.

Abstract: A lifting gate controlling device for controlling the front lifting gate of a baby's crib, including a mounting bar fastened in either front corner post of a baby's crib, a slide movably mounted on the mounting bar, a lock bolt fastened in the slide and controlled by a compression spring, a movable socket and a retaining block to releasably engage into a slot on the mounting bar, so that when the top rail of the front lifting gate is moved upwardly, this causes the lock bolt to disengage from the slot on the mounting bar, thus permitting the front lifting gate to be moved from an upper limit position to a lower limit position. A slopping track is made on the mounting bar to guide the lock bolt into the slot, when the front lifting gate is moved upwards from its lower limit position, so that the front lifting gate can be locked in its upper limit position.

Abstract: Crib with positionable and sliding railings, in which on the mutually confronting sides of the headboards, the headboards being intended to receive a sliding railing, a shaped slide bar is fixed, being provided with fixing holes and with holes receiving the end of a fixing rod movably accommodated in the outer solid piece of wood of the railing and pressed by a spring toward the shaped bar for guiding and positioning, and in which the fixing rod is provided with an operating knob at its free end.

Abstract: A full size baby crib of novel construction which provides a range of vertical mattress positions about double those available in existing standard cribs for the dual purpose of safety and convenience. The construction comprises two balcony type modules at each end of the crib which are cantilevered from four generally upright inboard posts. On the side of the crib containing the gate, the two inboard posts are stabilized and made rigid by a plurality of stabilizers which are all functional parts of the crib. This permits a gate of about one-half of the standard width to move vertically from the top rail to the floor.

Abstract: The invention involves a novel playpen structure. The playpen looks like a conventional playpen except that it has at least one removable side portion that can be used as a security gate. The removable side (or enclosed structure) portion has both a connecting structure for connecting it to the remainder of the enclosed structure and a securing structure which is used to secure the removable side portion to a door frame when used as a security gate.

Abstract: A convertible audio-visual display center adapted to reproduce visual images on a video display unit such as a television and audio reproductions of sound or music for the entertainment and/or education of infants in their cribs. The same device is readily convertible to usage as a work station for a computer console with simple adjustments.

Abstract: A crib dropside is provided which includes a double-acting latch mechanism for releasing the dropside from a locked position. The dropside includes an upper rail having a groove extending within the front surface thereof. The grove extends for the entire length of the rail. A pair of spring-loaded locking pins are mounted to each end of the rail. A cable extends within the groove and is secured at each end to the locking pins, the center of the cable being secured to a slide member within the latch mechanism. The dropside is slidably mounted to a pair of tracks, the tracks including openings for receiving the locking pins. Actuation of the latch mechanism causes the pins to be withdrawn from the openings. Additional openings are provided within the tracks for allowing a mattress support and crib stabilizer bars to be mounted thereto.

Abstract: A baby crib includes a frame body having a pair of upright support posts, a fence member extending between the upright support posts and having a hollow frame with two ends, and a pair of mounting pieces mounted to the upright support posts so as to connect the fence member to the upright support posts. Each of the mounting pieces has a flat plate member formed with a plurality of spaced engaging slots and a pair of first slide rails. Each of a pair of slide bodies has a slide portion with a through hole to be selectively aligned with one of the engaging slots, and a pair of second slide rails slidably engaging the first slide rails. Each of the slide bodies includes a housing portion that projects from the slide portion into one of the two ends of the hollow frame. A pair of engaging members is movably mounted inside the housing portion of the slide bodies.

Abstract: An improved infant crib includes a top frame, and a base panel. The crib side walls each comprise a pair of hinged side panels which are hinged to each other, to the base panel, and to the top frame so as to collapse inwardly drawing the base and top frame together. The crib includes two end panels which are hinged to the top frame so as to rotate inwardly from a vertical position to a horizontal position on the same plane as the top frame. When the end panels are in a vertical position, the side panels are locked in place forming a rigid structure. Extendable legs slide downward from channels within the end panels to support the crib above the floor. The resulting structure is strong when assembled, yet is easily and quickly collapsible to form a compact package suitable for stacking storage.

Abstract: The invention provides an improved support frame and extender for an adjustable bed which comprises an inclinable head frame portion 14 and an adjustable extender 19 slideably mounted on said head frame to bridge the space, S, between the head frame and the bed's post and filler apparatus 12 independent of the head frame angle of incline. The extender is slidably fastened to the head frame through the use of extender brackets 39 and is further supported by support bracket 40 and is interposed between the post 29 and first filler rod 36 of the post and filler assembly. As the head frame is inclined causing the space S to increase, the extender can be mannually slided to bridge the space thereby preventing inadvertant patient injury.

Abstract: A convertible audio-visual display center adapted to reproduce visual images on a video display unit such as a television and audio reproductions of sound or music for the entertainment and/or education of infants in their cribs. Abstract: A dropside crib comprising a rear wall, two end panels, a dropside, a stabilizer bar, and a mattress support, all quickly and easily assembled without any tool needed. Special dropside guides and a double action device are built in and operate the dropside according to regulations. The mattress support comprises a set of four independently operated crank-like members that suspend the support in one position and are reversible to hold the support up from the suspended condition.

Abstract: A crib structure for a child includes a support surface for the child. A plurality of side walls are operatively connected to the support surface. At least one of the side walls includes a door opening and at least one door. The door is laterally slidable substantially in the direction to and from an adjacent side wall, such that the child can be quietly and easily placed into and taken from the crib through the door opening without substantial bending or reaching. The sidewalls and the support surface define an interior space therebetween and an exterior space surrounding the sidewalls. At least one of the side walls is preferably composed of a material which is substantially flexible to forces directed substantially from the interior, and substantially rigid to forces directed substantially from the exterior. Step structure is preferably provided beneath the support surface.

Abstract: A dropside crib comprising a rear wall, two end panels, a dropside, a stabilizer bar, and a mattress support, all quickly and easily assembled without any tool needed. Special dropside guides and a double action device are built in and operate the dropside according to regulations.The guides not only provide the guiding function but also serve to hold the dropside to the end posts and also to lock the dropside in "up" position. The guide devices include flat, radial locking tabs at the ends of an actuating rod in the top rail of the dropside.

Abstract: This mattress hanger assembly provides an adjusting assembly for raising and lowering a mattress support. The assembly includes a bracket having a plurality of openings each representing a different position to which the support can be raised or lowered. A hanger carried by the support is received in one of these openings and a lock member secures the hanger in a selected opening to prevent the hanger from slipping out of the opening and placing the mattress in an unstable condition. The crib can include a drop rail having a track and slide system to facilitate access to the adjusting assembly.

Abstract: A cover which forms a semi-circular canopy over the top of children's crib in order to prevent accidental injuries caused by children falling out of cribs. The cover is supported by rods spaced apart in intervals with said rods attached at each end of the headboard or footboard of the crib in such a manner to allow the rotation of the rods. The cover is opened easily by pushing it back over the crib from either side, thereby giving access to approximately two-thirds of the crib so the child can be removed or placed in the crib quickly and easily. Straps are also provided which fasten to the siderails of the crib to keep the cover closed and the siderails from dropping while the child is in the crib.

Abstract: A convertible bed for infants and small children wherein the crib transforms from a crib configuration for small infants to a bed that prevents toddlers from inadvertently climbing out of the bed and later to a small child's bed, wherein the child can freely enter and leave the bed at will, thus prolonging the life of the bed from the time of birth of the infant to ages six to eight (6-8) years old.

Abstract: A child crib comprising a head and a foot frame. A mattress is supported elevated between the frames. Each of the frames has opposed vertical side edge members. A gate is secured to one side of the mattress between a common one of the vertical side edge members of the head and foot frame, and extends above the mattress. The other common ones of the vertical side edge members each have a first straight elongated guide channel section extending in a predetermined length thereof and communicating at a lower end thereof with a further guide channel section extending under the mattress. A displaceable gate having at least two spaced apart guide member in opposed side edges thereof is also provided with the guide members engaging the guide channels whereby the displaceable gate is displaceable from a position of use between the other common ones of the vertical side edge members to a storage position under the mattress.

Abstract: A gravity actuated lock for the e.g. dropside of a crib to hold the dropside elevated. A rotary lock enters a notch on the dropside rod under the influence of a relatively heavy manually manipulated member that is fixed to the rotary lock and actuates it to locking condition, with no spring present or needed. The lock is released by the operator by pulling or pushing upwardly on the member, which is available at the front of the crib.

Abstract: This invention relates to a vertically raised and lowered open frame crib side mounted along the side of a hospital bed and more particularly to a trip bar integrated to the crib side for permitting one hand release of the crib side when held by a pair of detents in the crib side raised position.

Abstract: Described briefly, according to a typical embodiment of the invention, a floor-mounted stationary base frame supports two traveling frames. One of the traveling frames comprises the mattress support frame. The other comprises the side and end walls of a single enclosure surrounding the mattress. Scissors arrangements connect the traveling frames to the base frame whereby the traveling frames are simultaneously operable in opposite directions to raise the mattress while the enclosure is lowered. A brake apparatus permits frame travel only during conscious and controlled operation of a brake release handle.

Abstract: An improved latch for a drop side crib having at least one drop-side movably disposed between two crib ends includes locking means carried by the movable side for engaging at least one of the ends to fix the position of the side with respect to the ends. Inaccessible actuating means on the side are effective to release the locking means, to allow the crib side to be moved. Manually operable control means are provided having a first disengaged position in which movement of the control means does not operate the actuating means to release the side; and a second, engaged position where movement of the control means operates the actuating means to release the side for adjustment or removal.

Abstract: Apparatus is provided to convert a crib to a bed, the crib having walls one of which is removable vertically relative to a supporting vertical guide rod proximate one end corner of the crib, the crib also having a horizontal pad and a supporting horizontal frame including a frame member extending beneath a side of the pad, the apparatus comprising(a) first arm structure having a first section that extends in supported relation with the upright rod, and a second section that extends generally horizontally above the level of the side of the pad,(b) the arm structure also having an associated third section extending downwardly from the second section and in spaced relation to an opposite end corner of the crib, said third section having attachment to the frame member,(c) and a step at least partly supported by the arm third section, the step downwardly offset relative to an upper surface defined by the pad.

Abstract: A crib having a frame and a bed supported by the frame includes at least one side rail assembly for enclosing one side of the bed surface. The side rail is attached to the frame for raising and lowering movement of the side rail. A latch assembly releasably secures the side rail in a raised position. A handle assembly includes a first rod connected to the side rail. A second rod is slidably connected to and located above the first rod for movement relative thereto. An actuator is connected between the second rod and the latch so that movement of the second rod toward the first releases the latch. The rods may be pivotally moved away from the side rail. A projection attached to the side rail is positioned between the rods to prevent movement of the rods for releasing the latch unless the rods are first pivoted away from the side rail.

Abstract: A childs' crib having a drop side, with a latch therefor requiring a double motion, up and inwardly toward the center of the crib, to release it for gravity drop of the drop side from its uppermost, latched position.

Abstract: A novel, safer crib structure is provided herein. This invention provides a crib in which the mattress can be selectively supported at two different heights with respect to the sides of the crib. In one embodiment, the mattress support is a sheet of plywood securely held in a groove in each of the facing end gables. A fixed height back wall is hinged to the end gables. The front wall is a drop side wall vertically slidably secured to the end gables. To change the height of the mattress, the drop side front wall is slidably removed, the sheet of plywood is slid out of one groove and slid into another groove, and the dropside front wall is again slidably secured to the end gables. In a preferred embodiment, a single groove is used to retain the mattress support, but the end gables are affixed to the back wall in such way that one gable is higher than the other gable. Wheels or castors are provided under the shorter gable to provide a level orientation.

Abstract: A double action securing device for the drop side of a crib comprises a guide member connected to the crib or to the drop side in a vertically oriented position. A slide member is slidably mounted to the guide member between two positions for raising and lowering the drop side. A catch pin is axially mounted to the slide member and engageable with an opening of the guide member in at least one of the relative positions. The catch pin has a head which defines a recess for embracing a lower edge of the guide member opening. The weight of the slide member causes the head recess to drop over the lower edge of the opening to lock the slide member with respect to the guide member.A mattress support is used with the securing device. It has a frame defining a space comprising four vertical brackets connected to four posts of the crib frame. Each bracket has a plurality of vertically spaced open ended slots with open mouths of each slot facing toward a centerline of the crib.

Abstract: A crib is provided including a drop side, a spring hanger, and stabilizing bars, all of which are mounted to common sets of tracks. The tracks are secured to the corner posts of the crib. The drop side includes an actuating mechanism including catch bars which are positioned within a groove in the upper rail thereof. The catch bars are maneuvered by an actuating member located near the center of the upper rail. Safety features are provided to prevent accidental lowering of the drop side.

Abstract: Rigid bed rail pads with resilient outer surfaces for headboard, footboard and siderails of hospital style beds are disclosed wherein the padding is dimensioned to provide a gap free junction between the padded rails and the bed mattress so as to avoid patient injury. The pads are readily removed and cleaned and allow normal raising and lowering of siderails on a hospital bed while the pads are in position.

Abstract: A crib bumper pad which is inflatable and fabricated out of transparent material so that a baby can be completely observed at all times within a crib. In a modified form a mattress is integral with the bumper pad and the complete unit is inflated by a foot pump.

Abstract: A double action latch for the drop side of a crib, wherein the drop side must be lifted slightly in order for the latch to be free to be actuated.

Abstract: A double action securing device for the drop side of a crib comprises a guide member connected to the crib or to the drop side in a vertically oriented position. A slide member is slidably mounted to the guide member between two positions for raising and lowering the drop side. A catch pin is axially and rotatably mounted to the slide member and engageable with an opening of the guide member in at least one of the relative positions. The catch pin has a head which defines a recess for embracing a lower edge of the guide member opening. The weight of the slide member causes the head recess to drop over the lower edge of the opening to lock the slide member with respect to the guide member. The catch pin can further be rotated to increase the engagement.

Abstract: A full size bed is provided convertible to a crib to allow the child full range of movement including a frame with vertical cavities in each member of the frame into which vertical bars are inserted to fix guard rails around the periphery of the bed with a section of the guard rail a separable gate which connects using extensions of vertical bars to the adjacent edges of the guard rail.

Abstract: Disclosed is a bassinet restraint for motor vehicles which offers significantly improved protection of a baby being carried within a motor vehicle. The bassinet restraint includes a base portion which is adapted to support the bottom of the bassinet and a cover portion which is engageable with the base portion, preferably via a hinged attachment, to the base portion. Attachment means are included to co-operate with standard motor vehicle seat belts so as to secure the bassinet restraint within the vehicle. It is preferred that the cover portion comprises a padded peripheral frame adapted to sit around a bassinet being contained by the restraint. The padded peripheral frame having a net stretched across its top so as to enclose the bassinet so that a baby will be safely contained therein.

Abstract: A safety latch for a crib drop side and a notched drop rod including a clip on the top rail of the drop side, the clip having a part lodged in the notch when latched, the clip having a motion to unlatch the same only upon a relative motion of the rail with respect to the clip.

Abstract: A guard and staircase unit for a drop-side crib, with vertical rods supporting the drop-side thereof, comprises a supporting framework consisting of a plurality of supporting members arranged in a rectangular support. A plurality of supporting members extend vertically from said rectangular support and support a plurality of steps with the top step being at the level of the crib mattress. A guard barrier wall is supported on said vertically extending support members for positioning along the open side of the crib with the drop-side opened or removed. An opening is provided in the guard barrier wall at the level of the top step. A railing is provided along the side of the steps opposite the wall and around the top step. The unit is provided with eyelets or other suitable fastening means for securing the same to the vertical rods of the crib.

Abstract: The crib is formed of walls of mesh in order to eliminate a multiplicity of rigid vertical bars. In addition, a hemispherically shaped canopy of similar mesh structure is fitted to the crib. This canopy has sections which can be pivoted to an open position to obtain access to the crib.
