  • Patent number: 8898831
Abstract: A counterbalancing assembly for an article of folding furniture comprises at least one piston extending between a support assembly and a furniture component, said piston being biased to resist a downward force of gravity acting on the furniture component. An upper mounting bracket secures a first end of the piston to the support assembly, and a lower mounting bracket secures a second end of the piston to the furniture component. One or both of the upper and lower mounting brackets includes a worm gear and a mounting element that is threaded onto the worm gear. Each such mounting element has a portion adapted to engage a complementary fitting defined by a respective end of the piston, such that rotation of the worm gear causes a corresponding linear movement of the mounting element, and thus, linear movement of the respective end of the piston.

  • Patent number: 8566980
Abstract: Provided is a folding bed including a cabinet unit and a head part pivotable in relation to the cabinet unit, wherein the head part, in an unused position, is positioned in an approximately vertical orientation in the cabinet unit and in a usage position in an approximately horizontal orientation at least in sections in front of the cabinet unit. The head part can be pivoted from the unused position into the usage position and back. In order to further reduce the space required for the folding bed, the cabinet unit and head part are connected together via a control lever that is held pivotable about a pivot axis on the cabinet unit and a pivot axis on the head part. The control lever is designed such that on movement of the head part from the unused position into the usage position and back, it is pivoted against the cabinet unit.

  • Patent number: 7574758
Abstract: A folding cabinet bed includes a cabinet of sufficient size to enclose a standard size folded futon mattress, and allows the mattress to be deployed as a bed. Hinges on the front wall of the cabinet enable the front wall to fold down vertically. An extension panel attached to the front wall helps to create a sleeping platform that accommodates the mattress. A drawer with a plurality of nesting telescoping rails between the sidewalls of the cabinet and the sidewalls of the drawer is provided at the bottom of the cabinet. The telescoping rails enable the drawer to be extended away from the cabinet and support the front wall and extension panel to create a level sleeping surface. The drawer may include storage space for pillows and bedding. Latching means holds the cabinet closed to withstand outward pressure of the folded mattress. A safety chain or strap may be provided.

  • Patent number: 6851139
Abstract: A folding cabinet bed is described for providing a piece of furniture that opens to a full-length bed in an attractive chest with a small footprint. The invention comprises a cabinet that houses a mattress, such as a futon, and allows the futon to be deployed as a bed. The cabinet is deep and tall enough to enclose a folded futon and of sufficient width to accommodate standard sizes of futon mattresses, without a separate mattress platform. Hinges on the bottom of the front and back walls of the cabinet enable the cabinet to be opened vertically so that the front and back walls fold down to a sleeping position, without mechanical devices to assist in deploying the bed. The top of the cabinet can become a headboard for the bed in the open configuration. Decorative handles or other protrusions on the front and back walls of the cabinet are sized to extend outward from the cabinet the same distance as the feet/supports of the cabinet to create a level sleeping surface when unfolded.
