Folding Patents (Class 5/174)
  • Patent number: 5608930
Abstract: A foldable bed includes a pair of legs arranged between a head member and a foot member. Four pairs of pivot axels are arranged between and coupled to the members and the legs by four pairs of links. Two pairs of frames are pivotally coupled between the legs and the members and each pair include a middle portion pivotally coupled together by a hinge member so as to allow the frames to be folded upward about the hinge member and so as to support the frames in horizontal position by the hinge member. The bed may be folded to a rather compact configuration.

  • Patent number: 5568658
Abstract: A convertible bed-chair assembly comprises first and second solid assembly members which fit together in two different configurations. Corresponding planar surfaces of the members each include a cavity therein which is formed by an internal wall of the corresponding member and is unbounded at a first sidewall of the member. The assembly members each further include one or more recesses in a side wall thereof opposite the first sidewall. A pair of simple latches connect the members together in first, bed configuration wherein the first sidewalls of the members are in abutment and the cavities cooperate to form a concavity for receiving a futon or mattress. A further pair of simple latches connect the members together in a second, chair configuration wherein the first planar surfaces are in abutment and the first and second cavities form an internal storage space, and the recesses of the members are aligned to form a seat or seats.

  • Patent number: 5386601
Abstract: The rectangular bed frame (1) of a folding bed is composed of two substantially symmetrical elements (2, 3), which are interconnected by hinges (4) in the symmetry plane lying between the two narrow sides (6) of the bed frame (1), so that they can fold on top of each other with their undersides. Along one of the long sides (5) both elements (2, 3) have swingable casters (15), whereupon the bed frame (1) can be easily moved during folding and transport.

  • Patent number: 5090071
Abstract: A transportable and foldable articulated bed with a non-positively driven articulated mattress platform that reduces the risk of injury and permits the bed to be folded for transport without disconnecting platform drive systems. The mattress platform is articulated on a foldable frame consisting of a head section hinged to a foot section. A pair of retractable caster assemblies can be swiveled 270 degrees from a storage position mounted on the head frame section and connected to the foot frame section with both sections aligned to a position where it can also be connected to both sections when the bed is folded so it can be rolled about.

  • Patent number: 4858258
Abstract: A mattress is positioned on a flexible deck which is supported by tension members connected to a frame. In a preferred embodiment, the frame is formed of concave side rails, a horizontal head rail, and a horizontal foot rail. The upper surface of the deck is longitudinally concave and transversely convex. The mattress is tapered so that its upper surface is transversely and longitudinally crowned to counteract any potential sagging effect when a person lies on the mattress.

  • Patent number: 4788727
Abstract: A collapsible bed base is disclosed to support a bed mattress. The bed base comprises a foldable peripheral frame, removable cross-support joist members extending across the frame and removable top decking panels supported by the frame and across-support members for supporting a mattress thereon. The foldable peripheral support frame assumes a rectangular configuration in an open position. The frame members at the opposed ends of the frame have a hinge in their center. These frame members at the ends of the frame are also hinged to frame members forming the sides of the frame. The frame members at the ends of the frame can be bent inwardly about their centers so as to draw the side frame members together into a collapsed position.

  • Patent number: 4366586
Abstract: A folding bed mechanism, such as, for example, a convertible ottoman, has a plurality of pivotally connected bed sections, including a base section supported on rollers or the like. The bed sections are adapted to unfold into a straight line and to fold into a compact configuration. The improvement of the present invention comprises at least one anti-roll foot mounted in the base section for movement toward and away from the surface on which the base section is supported and a control mechanism responsive to the initiation of unfolding pivotal movement of one of the bed sections relative to the base section for urging the foot into contact with the support surface to resist rolling of the base frame during unfolding of the bed sections.
