Abstract: A storage system is provided including a plurality of adjacent storage apparatuses, each comprising: a plurality of adjoining storage compartments, including front and rear storage compartments, and one or more intermediate storage compartments arranged in between. Each storage compartment may include a removable insert forming an angled bottom compartment surface. Each storage apparatus comprises opposing hook-like elements spanning each longitudinal side of the storage apparatus. The hook-like element on one side of a storage apparatus engages the opposing hook-like element of an adjacent of storage apparatus to connect the two storage apparatuses to each other, and such connections are provided iteratively across the plurality of storage apparatuses. The hook-like element of one storage apparatus is configured to slide through the opposing hook-like element of the adjacent storage apparatus to enable sliding one storage apparatus relative to the adjacent storage apparatus.

The center section is connected to first and second slide mechanisms, and the head section is connected to first and second guide mechanisms. The slide and guide mechanisms are connectable to opposed walls of a structure. In some embodiments, a hinge assembly for a folding structure includes a center post securable to the center section, and a connecting bracket movably coupled with the center post that is vertically displaceable on the center post between a down position and an up position. A forward bracket is secured at one end to the connecting bracket and is securable at an opposite end to the head section, and an aft bracket is secured at one end to the connecting bracket and is securable at an opposite end to the foot section.

A carriage having a seat support is carried by the frame, mounted with wheels engaging the side frame members to translate from a first position through a range progressing toward the head end to a fully translated position. At least one telescoping rotation strut is attached at a first end and rotates through an axle pivotally attached to the side frame members. The telescoping rotation strut engages at a second end the upper body support. At least one fixed length rotation arm is carried at a first end by a rotating tube and pivotally attaches to the upper body support at a second end. The rotating tube is mounted on wheels constrained in a track and translates laterally in the track to contact a track end proximate the head end of the frame at a termination of a first range of motion.

Abstract: In some implementations, a modular furniture cabinet includes a top flooring affixed to static furniture and supported by one or more structures. The top surface of a bottom flooring, backs of the static furniture pieces, and a bottom surface of the top flooring define a storage space, and the dynamic furniture pieces substantially reside in the storage space when the modular furniture cabinet is in a closed configuration.

Abstract: A bed convertible between a sofa configuration and a bed configuration. The bed includes a stationary bed support assembly having a stationary bed frame, a back rail, a front rail, and a plurality of slats adapted to support a mattress and a movable bed support assembly having a movable bed frame, a back rail, a front rail and a plurality of slats adapted to support a mattress. In one embodiment, a storage compartment is located underneath the stationary bed support assembly and the movable bed support assembly. Also, a backrest may be attached to the back rail of the stationary bed support assembly, whereby the backrest is adapted to support a user's back when the bed is in the sofa configuration.

Abstract: The convertible sofa-bed includes a base, a sliding and pivoting seat, a fold-out extension pivotally connected to the seat, and a fold-down seat back pivotally mounted to the base. The seat is pivotally connected to a pair of slides that ride on side rails mounted to the base, which allow the seat to be manually shifted between a horizontal seat position over base and a horizontal bed position spaced from the base. The seat is also pivotally connected to the slide by a ball joint that allows the seat to pivot upward so that the extension can be unfolded from beneath the seat. The ball joint connection between the slides and seat frame prevents the seat from binding when shifted between the seat position and the bed position even if the seat is not perfectly square with respect to the side rails as it is manually lifted and moved.

The sofa frame includes first and second arm portions, and a backrest portion extending therebetween. The main support frame is connected to at least one of the first and second arm portions to fixedly connect the main support frame to the sofa frame. The bed frame includes a first section and a second section pivotally connected to the first section via a hinge. The sleeper sofa further includes a guide plate defining an arcuate guide slot, which communicates with a guide post connected to the second section of the bed frame. The guide post travels in the guide slot to lower and raise the second section of the bed frame as the bed frame moves between the retracted and extended positions.

Abstract: A cushion, mattress or mattress section for a convertible furniture article defines a plurality of apertures, such as slits or slots or recesses, extending into or through the cushion or mattress section that are cut in a direction at an angle to the first length of the mattress section. The cushion or mattress section expands from its first length to a second length that is longer than the first length upon applying a stretching force to the cushion or mattress section and thereby positioning the mattress section into the open or sleeping configuration. Expansion is due to resilience of the material forming the mattress or mattress section in combination with opening of the apertures. Simultaneously, a head rest member and back rest member which are initially at a generally vertical position are traversed to a generally horizontal position. When the buttock-foot member is fully traversed outward (i.e., extended position), the head rest member, back rest member and the buttock-foot member are generally substantially co-planar and generally horizontal. This provides a firm bed surface upon which a person may comfortably sleep. From the bed configuration, head rest member and the back rest member may be buckled to allow the buttock-foot member to be pushed inward. The buttock-foot member is then pushed fully inward (i.e., retracted position) until the head rest member and the back rest member are in the generally vertical position.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a furniture item having user-support frames that are convertible between a seat configuration and a bed configuration. In one embodiment, user-support frames include a head-support frame anchored by a link assembly to a furniture-item base and a back-support frame pivotably coupled to the head-support frame. The link assembly facilitates both pivoting and lateral shifting of the head-support frame relative to the furniture-item base. In the bed configuration, a cam and cam follower are disposed under the user-support frames, such that when the user-support frames laterally shift, the cam contacts the cam follower, thereby upwardly moving a junction at which user-support frames are hinged to one another.

Abstract: The patient room window seat converts between a bench seat and a bed with a simple pull of a handle. In the seat position part of a horizontal upholster cushion is under the backrest so the portion of the cushion in available is the correct width for comfortable seating. Moving the upholstered cushion forward until fully uncovered provides a comfortable bed. A second knob removes a stop allowing the cushion to fully extend and leave the base uncovered in a service position that gives full access for cleaning. The patient room seat is constructed with a commercially available heavy-duty ball bearing slides and a modular multi-position remote latching mechanism. The slides and the latching mechanism working in combination provide an effortless transition between the seat and bed position, allowing elderly or weakened individuals to operate the window seat without problem.

When in the unextended seat position, the tracking platform allows the horizontal portion of the seat to support an occupant pitched back toward the vertical seat cushion at or about an angle of 6° to the horizontal. However, when the tracking platform is extended so that the seat can be used as a bed, the tracking platform travels along a curved frame rail profile which allows the platform to lay flat or substantially flat, thus allowing the vertical cushion to be placed next to the horizontal seat cushion so that they lie substantially flat to provide optimized comfort.

The folding mechanism includes a frame with a rear section rotatably coupled with the sofa frame, a middle section pivotally coupled with the rear section, and a front section pivotally coupled with the middle section. The mattress assembly is supported on the folding mechanism and contains a shell and an inner support received within the shell. The inner support including an innerspring construction and an air bladder, wherein in the first position, the rear and middle sections of the folding mechanism are located within the cavity and the front section is used as a seating surface and wherein in the second position, the rear, middle, and front sections are used as a sleeping surface.
