Links Or Clips Patents (Class 5/270)
  • Patent number: 6338174
Abstract: A spring mattress including a number of interconnected coil spring elements, and a method of manufacturing the mattress. The spring mattress includes the coil spring elements that are interconnected by surface elements, such as strip pieces made from textile or plastic material and extending at least in one plane that is essentially in parallel with a plane of the mattress, with the strip pieces extending between and being attached to pairs of neighboring spring elements, thus interconnecting the spring elements.

  • Patent number: 6050553
Abstract: A device for connecting springs together to define a support surface includes four arms each which extend in an outward radial direction from a center of the connecting device, the length of each arm defined by two sides extending in spaced relation to one another. Each arm includes a stiffening portion extending in a widthwise direction between the sides of the arm and extending from an end thereof towards the center of the connecting device only partially along the length of the arm. The straight sides of each arm have identical height dimensions and the stiffening portion has a lesser height than the height of the sides. The sides and the stiffening porting of each arm together define a planar surface of the arm and a finger portion extends from the end of the arm to define with the planar surface a U-shaped recess for gripping a top coil of a coil spring.

  • Patent number: 5080329
Abstract: A spring loaded locking system for a box spring assembly having a generally rectangular frame, a plurality of spring modules and a grid type wire support deck disposed a predetermined distance above the frame. The locking system provides an interference fit which secures the spring modules to the support deck. Each spring has a pair of outwardly open V-shaped sections integrally formed with the upper portion of the spring. The vertices of the V-shaped sections commonly contact one wire of the support deck. A pair of legs extends from each vertex and straddle the common wire and either cross one of a pair of parallel brace wires of the support deck. The V-shaped sections are biased apart from each other by the shape of the upper portion of the spring module itself. The interaction between the vertices and the common wire, between the legs and the brace wires, and the outward bias of the upper portion of the spring module provides an interference lock fit which secures the support deck to the spring module.

  • Patent number: 4790519
Abstract: A clip for use in a hinged border wire assembly, such as a border wire assembly used in a mattress, joins border wire portions together in a manner that permits one border wire section to rotate with respect to the other. This permits folding of a large border wire of the type that would be used on a king-size mattress, for example, in order to pass the mattress through small areas such as doors and stairways. The disclosed embodiment has two border wire sections which are generally U-shaped and which abut along portions formed at the ends of each U. The clip has a pair of adjacent sleeves within which respective abutting border wire portions are received. A barb is formed inwardly of a sleeve to secure the barbed sleeve in place on its border wire portion while allowing the other abutting portion to rotate within its sleeve in hinged fashion.

  • Patent number: 4470584
Abstract: A box spring assembly which includes a generally rectangular frame, a welded wire grid disposed above and aligned with the frame, a plurality of upwardly extending limited deflection wire springs which are mounted at their lower ends on the frame and at their upper ends are secured to the welded wire grid, and corner springs which are yieldable and are supported on the corners of the frame so as to support the corners of the grid. Each of the limited deflection springs is formed at its upper end with an attaching portion that is readily secured to the grid by conventional clips and includes wire sections which provide additional spaced supports for the grid. Improved cross rails in the frame support the springs and improved corner springs support the corners of the grid.
