Abstract: To provide an adjustable bed that assists a user to turn comfortably in his or her sleep without mental stress. Once an automatic mode starts, measurement on the depth of sleep of the user lying on the bed is launched. The depth of sleep is measured by detecting biological information such as brain waves, heart rate, and respiratory rate of the user using electrode sensors or the like, and analyzing the biological information according to a polysomnography method or the like. If the depth of sleep is 0, i.e., the user is in REM sleep, and if one hour or more has passed since the measurement is launched or since an immediately preceding turn operation, a turn operation is performed to turn the user.

Abstract: A new and useful OB/GYN examination chair is provided, which is lightweight and collapsible for convenient transport or storage, and which is readily erected to an examination position in which it supports an OB/GYN patient in a convenient position for an OB/GYN examination or procedure. The chair comprises a collapsible structure having a seat, a back rest, a pair of armrests and a pair of substantially planar leg rests. The leg rests are spaced apart from each other to enable a patient's legs to be supported thereon in an abducted position suitable for an OB/GYN examination, and define therebetween an examination/demonstration space in which an OB/GYN caregiver can conduct an OB/GYN examination or procedure. Additionally, the seat has support structure which enables a slidable basin to be integrally connected with the seat. The chair has a seat which is relatively short in comparison to typical chairs designed as furniture pieces.

  • Patent number: 5418990
Abstract: An operating table, universally applicable for all types of operations, is based on a column (1) which constitutes a support for a two-part bed, with the parts "bed A" and "bed B", each of which is attached to its part of a ring (2) which can be rotated through 360.degree. in the horizontal plane in a bearing unit (3). The bearing unit (3) is arranged on a vertically rotatable device (14) on the supporting vertical column (1) which is designed so that the axis of rotation coincides with the patient's vertical centre of gravity. The patient can thus be rotated in the vertical plane. Thus the patient's rotations coincide with the patient's horizontal and vertical centre of gravity, enabling the patient to be rotated into the required position with a minimum of effort. It will thus be possible to gain access to the operating table from all sides, and there will be a choice between "bed A" and "bed B", with the patient lying on his stomach or on his back.

  • Patent number: 5398357
Abstract: A hospital bed which is convertible to a chair configuration has a serially hinged normally horizontal head panel, seat panel, thigh panel and foot panel. The foot panel has a central section and a wing section longitudinally pivoted on each lateral side of the central section. To convert the horizontal bed to the chair configuration the head panel is pivoted upwardly and the foot panel pivots downwardly between parallel rail members of the bed frame. The hinged intersection of the foot panel and the thigh panel pivots upwardly to support the patient's knees. Through sliding contact with rail members of the bed frame each wing section pivots upwardly in response to the downward movement of the central section of the foot panel.
