    Abstract: An elevation apparatus, system and method for elevating the patient's limb when using a manual distractor unit is mounted upon a support frame attached to an operating table side rail. A foot strap is attached to the extension apparatus and to the patient's ankle with a patient's knee support pad, extending from the distractor unit, is positioned under the patient's knee to provide traction to the patient's ankle, which is secured to the support frame. The extension apparatus may be formed with a plurality of attachment points for the foot strap so as to provide improved access to the ankle area with advantages of allowing additional types of procedures a surgeon may perform on the patient and/or the ability of the surgeon to access the ankle area and lower leg.

The apertures are conical in nature such that the ball mount is stable to horizontal forces when placed therein. The base plate may include at least one upwardly open channel that receives a foot rest for anchoring the adjustable surgical support system to the operating table. Surgeons and other surgical personnel may adjust the position of the foot and/or lower leg during surgery by removing and selectively inserting the ball mount into any one of the other apertures in the base plate, or rotating the same within the selected aperture.

    Abstract: A method of securing a patient onto an operating table when the patient is in the Trendelenburg position and apparatus therefor including a kit. A viscoelastic pad is used to support and hold a patient on a medical procedure table during a medical procedure performed while the table, and thus the patient lying thereon, is in an inclined position, such as the Trendelenburg position. The viscoelastic pad has characteristics which promote a minimization of pressure forces on the patient's body, as well as promote a secure cushioning and holding of the patient in a desired position on the table, in order to minimize injury to the patient.
