Abstract: Mattresses that have a point of attachment to an adjustable bed frame that provides a pivot point about which the mattress can pivot when rising to an inclined position. In one embodiment the mattress has a pivoting member extending transversely through the mattress and provides a pivot point about which one portion of the mattress can pivot in relation to another portion of the mattress. By placing the member about midway through the mattress, one half of the mattress can pivot relative to the other half of the mattress, while the center point of the mattress is held in place. By pinning the member to the frame, the center of the mattress is held against the frame even when one portion of the mattress is inclined relative to the other. This prevents or ameliorates the mattress tendency to lift off the frame when the frame pivots into an inclined position.

  • Patent number: 7086108
Abstract: The sectional non-slip mattress includes a support frame defining a plurality of compartments and at least one cushion having a plurality of ball bearings received within a cushion housing. Each compartment receives a corresponding ball bearing, thus preventing horizontal movement of the cushion with respect to the support frame. The ball bearings form a first material layer and a second material layer is formed from a set of elastic beads. A third material layer is formed from a plurality of gel-filled capsules and the three material layers are all housed within a fabric cushion housing, which is permeable to air. An additional air supply may be provided for driving pre-cooled or pre-heated air through the cushion.

Abstract: There is provided a bed with air adjustable elevation components having a generally rectangular foundation, a mattress having a plurality of sections, and an air chamber under each section of the mattress that is to be raised. The contour and shape of the mattress is controlled by inflating and deflating the each air chamber to elevate and incline the section of the mattress. The mattress is formed of connecting sections including a back section, a buttock section adjacent the back section. Adjacent the buttock section is an upper leg section and adjacent upper leg section is lower leg section. The sides of upper leg section and lower leg section abutting each other are formed at an angle such that when the leg sections of the mattress are in a non-elevated position a V-shaped cut out area is formed between the two sections. The air chambers are connected to a pump and a controller is provided to easily inflate and deflated the chambers, together or separately, with compressed air.
