Abstract: A diacyl peroxide composition comprising 10 to 60 parts by weight of peroxide which comprises dibenzoyl peroxide, either di-m-toluoyl peroxide, or di-o-toluoyl peroxide or m-toluoyl o-toluoyl peroxide and either benzoyl m-toluoyl peroxide or benzoyl o-toluoyl peroxide and 90 to 40 parts by weight of a solvent which dissolves the diacyl peroxides does not cause the deposition of the solid matters when kept below 5.degree. C., the phase separation nor the storage degradation for a long term and can be stored for a long time. The composition usually has peroxide components which are suitable for use in place of benzoyl peroxide and excellent in the handling and the workability.
Abstract: A process for the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers, such as vinyl chloride, wherein a solid, monomer-soluble, free-radical forming compound is used as initiator. The initiator is added to the polymerization system in the form of an aqueous dispersion which contains an ethoxylated nonionic emulsifier with an HLB-value above 15, and preferably above 17, which emulsifier does not contain cyclic inner ether bonds. Polymerizates produced according to the method have good electric insulation properties. Suitable ethoxylated nonionic emulsifiers are ethoxylated fatty acids and ethoxylated fatty alcohols. A means, suitable for polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers, consists of an aqueous dispersion of a free-radical forming compound containing a nonionic ethoxylated emulsifier with an HLB-value above 15, in an amount of at least 1 percent by weight, based on the initiator, and preferably also a protective colloid such as polyvinyl alcohol.
Abstract: A novel transition metal catalyst which has a phosphido-type linkage is much less subject to metal loss during operations because of its greater bond strength. This catalyst will hydrogenate unsaturated hydrocarbons under milder conditions than most prior art catalysts.

Abstract: An aqueous sizing composition has an aqueous emulsion containing an organic peroxide solid at 20.degree. C. having improved stability and dilutability. The aqueous emulsion has the solid organic peroxide, which, for example, can be a bisperoxide or peroxy ester, solubilized in an effective amount of an organic peroxide that is a liquid at 20.degree. C. for example, a bisperoxide or peroxyester. The emulsion has one or more cationic, anionic or nonionic lubricants in effective amounts to disperse the peroxides in water. The emulsion also has sufficient amounts of water to make an oil-in-water emulsion. In addition to the emulsion, the sizing composition has an organo silane coupling agent and lubricant and possibly a film forming polymer.
Abstract: A photo polymerization initiator composition is disclosed. The composition is comprised of an organic peroxide and a salt selected from the group consisting of pyrylium salts, thiapyrylium salts and selenopyrylium salts represented by the general formula (I): ##STR1## the substituents are defined within the specification. By utilizing the disclosed photo polymerization initiator composition, it is possible to obtain high sensitivity even in the visible range of light.
Abstract: A phlegmatized organic peroxide composition is disclosed which contains a liquid organic peroxide and a metallic soap of a higher fatty acid in an amount sufficient to phlegmatize the liquid peroxide. Viscosity modifiers may be added to render the composition non-tacky.

Abstract: Disclosed are novel catalyst systems and method for curing a peroxide-curable ethylenically unsaturated (e.g. acrylic or vinyl) composition wherein the catalyst system is a combination of the peroxide curing agent and a Cu.sup.+1 activator or a combination of a peroxide curing agent and an activator system comprising a furfuryl alcohol and an acid catalyst. Also disclosed is a new catalyst system for curing ring compounds (e.g. epoxides) which comprises a combination of ferrocene and a diazonium salt of a Lewis acid. Preferred curable compositions are adhesives and especially acrylic adhesives and epoxy adhesives.
Abstract: An aqueous emulsion of an organic peroxide that is liquid at a temperature of 20.degree. C. and that is insoluble or has limited solubility in water is provided that has improved shelf-stability, shear-stability and process stability and has good dilutability and has a particle size of around 1.5 microns or less. The emulsion has from about 10 weight percent of the emulsion to about 70 weight percent of the emulsion of an organic peroxide that is a liquid at 20.degree. C. and in particular that has a half-life exceeding 60 hours at 212.degree. F. (100.degree. C.) and 20 minutes at 300.degree. F. (149.degree. C.). The emulsion also has about 0.005 to about 15 weight percent of the emulsion of a nonionic emulsifier blend. The emulsifier blend has three emulsifiers selected from polyalkylene glycol ethers, dialkylaryl polyether alcohols, and polyoxy-propylene-polyoxyethylene condensates and the like nonionic emulsifiers having a particular HLB range for each of the three emulsifiers.

Abstract: A process for the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers wherein a solid, monomer-soluble, free-radical forming compound is used as initiator. The initiator is charged to the polymerization system in the form of an aqueous dispersion comprising an emulsifier combination which consists of an ethoxylated nonionic emulsifier with an HLB-value above 15, which does not contain cyclic inner ether bonds, and a non-ethoxylated nonionic emulsifier with an HLB-value below 9. The emulsifier combination has a resulting HLB-value within the interval 11-17 and the combination is used in an amount of at least 1% by weight based on the initiator. Polymerizates produced according to the method have good electric insulation properties. A means suitable for the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers consists of an aqueous dispersion of a free-radical forming initiator, which dispersion comprises the mentioned emulsifier combination in an amount of at least 1 percent by weight, based on the initiator.
