Abstract: The present invention relates to a coalescing agent and a coating composition containing the coalescing agent as represented in structure (I); wherein; n is integer from 1 to 8; R1 and R2 independently represents group selected from alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, phenyl, or benzyl groups; and X represents group selected from hydroxy or amine. The coalescing agent according to this invention contains low amount of volatile organic compounds, has no pungent odour, and environmental friendly. Moreover, it provides good efficacy when being used as coating component.

Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel method for producing a peptide thioester. In the present invention, general peptide synthesis is performed on a solid-phase resin, carboxylic acid obtained after cutout is allowed to react with p-toluenesulfonyl isocyanate, and then the reaction product is alkylated, and is reacted with thiol. Thus, peptide thioester is simply synthesized under mild conditions.
Abstract: Automatic transmission fluids are described which contain at least 0.05 weight percent of a dialkyl thiadiazole and sulfurized fat, sulfurized fatty acid, sulfurized fatty acid ester, up to about 0.15 weight % of a metal-containing detergent, and/or a mixture thereof. The transmission fluids according to the present invention exhibit improved anti-wear and extreme pressure performance.
Abstract: A process for sulfurizing a composition of unsaturated fatty ester is described in which said composition is reacted with elemental sulfur in the presence of a promoter that consists of at least one compound with an amine group and in the presence of water. When the sulfur-containing product is separated from an aqueous phase that contains the compound with an amine group, the latter can be reused for several successive sulfurations without substantial loss of activity of the promoter. The compositions of unsaturated fatty esters can be used as additives for lubricating oils or fats.

Abstract: An aqueous machining fluid admixture comprises water, a sulfurized oil and a water soluble salt of a dimercaptothiadiazole wherein the weight ratio of the sulfurized oil to the water soluble salt of dimercaptothiadiazole is in the range of from about 15:1 to about 45:1. A method employs the fluid by applying the fluid at the interface between tool and workpiece in shaping or working operations of metallic and solid non-metallic workpieces. The fluid is particularly effective in grinding operations to produce improved grinding ratios.
Abstract: Oil soluble compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R and R.sup.1 are independently cyano, alkoxycarbonyl or together form a carbocycle or alkylcarbocycle and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl sulfurized alkyl, or alkoxycarbonylalkyl. The compound are useful as wear protectants or extreme pressure agents to enhance wear protection or extreme pressure properties in lubricating oils and greases.
