  • Patent number: 7645727
Abstract: Metalworking fluids contain active sulfur, a certain kind of inactive sulfur called “available sulfur”, and fat in a base oil of a lubricating viscosity. The metalworking fluids are chlorine free and phosphorous free. Boundary lubrication is provided by the fat, while extreme pressure lubrication is provided by the sulfur. Available sulfur is inactive sulfur minus any contribution of inactive sulfur from sulfurized saturated fats. Active sulfur and available sulfur are present in balanced proportions, while fat is present at an amount effective to provide boundary lubrication. Use of the fluids reduces tool wear over a long period of action and over a variety of boundary and extreme pressure conditions.

  • Patent number: 7572361
Abstract: Lubricant blends and finished gear oils comprising a lubricant base oil fraction derived from highly paraffinic wax, a petroleum derived base oil, and a pour point depressant are provided. The lubricant base oil fraction derived from highly paraffinic wax comprises less than 0.30 weight percent aromatics, greater than 5 weight percent molecules with cycloparaffinic functionality, and a ratio of weight percent of molecules with monocycloparaffinic functionality to weight percent of molecules with multicycloparaffinic functionality greater than 15. The petroleum derived base oils comprises greater than 90 weight percent saturates and less than 300 ppm sulfur and is preferably selected from the group consisting of a Group II base oil, a Group III base oil, and mixtures thereof. These lubricant blends have surprising low Brookfield viscosities at ?40° C.

  • Patent number: 7528097
Abstract: A composition and method for a non-emulsion crude oil simulant containing biodegradable oil, and a terpene is disclosed and described. Biodegradable oils such as canola oil, cottonseed oil, and soybean oil can be particularly beneficial for use in connection with these oil simulants. Terpenes such as d-limonene can be included to provide oil simulant compositions which exhibit good oil simulant properties. Additives such as photochromic dyes, food dyes, food-grade antioxidants, microorganisms, and nutrients can also be used. These non-emulsion based oil simulants can be readily tailored and adjusted to approximate relevant properties of a specific target fluid for use in assessing oil spill response, containment, clean-up of equipment, percolation, and/or spill behavior.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a sprayable oil composition comprising a blend of an oil, an edible solvent selected from the group consisting of triacetin, tripropionin, tributyrin, and ethyl acetate; and a preferably an emulsifier such as a lecithin. Advantageously, the viscosity of the blend can be controlled without interesterification of the solvent with the oil. Furthermore, such oil compositions can be effective sprayable oils such as for pan release applications while being substantially free of alcohols.

Abstract: The present invention provides compositions and products, such as waxes and lubricants, comprising a plurality of nanoparticles dispersed in a continuous phase comprising a vegetable oil derived material, such as one or more vegetable oils or a synthetic product derived from one or more vegetable oils. Incorporation of nanoparticles in the present compositions is beneficial for providing mechanical, thermal and/or chemical properties useful for a selected product or product application. In some compositions of the present invention, for example, incorporation of the nanoparticle component provides compositions derived from one or more vegetable oils exhibiting enhanced mechanical stability, hardness, viscosity, thermal stability and mechanical strength.
