Abstract: The present invention relates to improved lubricant compositions highly resistant to oxidative degradation comprising selected 5-tert. -butyl-4hydroxy-3-methylphenyl substituted fatty acid esters, diphenylamines and zinc dithiophosphates. The compositions as defined above are characterized by superior antioxidative properties. This can be demonstrated in various standard tests such as Deposit and Oxidation Panel Test (DOPT) and Pressurized Differential Scanning Calorimetry (PDSC).
Abstract: A low viscosity lubricating oil composition having a CCS viscosity less than 3500 mPa.s at −25° C. and having no more than 0.16 mass % of phosphorus which comprises a dispersant, and a detergent of calcium or magnesium or both; and optionally a zinc dihydrocarbyldithiophosphate, a viscosity modifier, a pour point depressant and an antioxidant. The oil satisfies the Cummins M11 cross-head wear engine test specification in a low phosphorus and low viscosity formulation.

Abstract: A lubricant composition is provided. The lubricant composition includes a machinery lubricant and an antimicrobially effective amount of an antimicrobial agent. The antimicrobial agent exhibits a partition coefficient between water and the machinery lubricant of between about 0.01 and about 1,000, and the lubricant composition provides at least a two log reduction in bacteria in water in about two weeks or at least a two log reduction in mold and yeast in water in about one month from a concentration of bacteria of between 105 and 106 CFU/ml and a mold and yeast concentration of between about 105 and 106 CFU/ml. Methods for manufacturing and using a lubricant composition are provided. A method for manufacturing a lubricant composition is provided.

Abstract: Disclosed is a lubricative composition obtained by polymerizing a monomer or prepolymer for a thermosetting resin or by crosslinking a crosslinking resin, the polymerization and crosslinking being conducted in either a lubricating oil or a grease containing the lubricating oil as a base oil. The lubricative composition is usable at high temperatures, free from lubricating-oil or grease deterioration, and excellent in mechanical strength and moldability and in the amount of the lubricating oil held therein.
Abstract: A lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engines which comprises a base oil, (a) an ashless dispersant containing boron, (b) a metallic detergent, and optionally (c) at least one selected from a group consisting of esters of aromatic carboxylic acids having hydroxyl group and hydroxy compounds and compounds containing boron which are derived from the esters, wherein a ratio [B]/[M] of a content of boron [B] in the composition in % by weight to a total content of metals [M] derived from the detergent in the composition in % by weight is not less than 0.15, and a sulfated ash content in the composition is not more than 1.5% by weight. The lubricating oil composition has a low ash content, does not show adverse effects on the performance of apparatuses for exhaust gas treatment, and exhibits excellent resistance to coking and oxidation stability.
Abstract: A lubricant including a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein 4, 5 or 6 of the substituents X.sub.1 to X.sub.6 can be --SR, --SO.sub.2 R or --SOR and the other substituents can be --H, --Cl, --F, --OH, --SH, --R, --OR, --COOR or --OOCR wherein R is independently, at each occurrence, unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, said substitution consisting of fluorine substitution of hydrogen, --O-- substitution of --CH.sub.2 --, --S-- substitution of --CH.sub.2 -- and mixtures thereof, said --O-- and --S-- substitutions being selected so that --O-- atoms are not directly bonded to each other. The invention further includes a method of lubricating with the lubricant.

Abstract: There are herein disclosed an additive for a lubricant or a fuel which comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of substituted hydroxyaromatic ester derivatives represented by the general formulae (I) and (II) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 to R.sup.5 are each an organic group having 6 or more carbon atoms, a, b, d, e, k and m are from 1 to 3, c, f, g, i and j are from 0 to 3, and h is from 0 to 4, but (f+g) is from 1 to 3, and (h+i) is from 1 to 6, an additive composition for a lubricant or a fuel, and a lubricating oil composition or a fuel composition containing the above-mentioned additive. The above-mentioned additive for the lubricant or the fuel is desirable as an ashless detergent excellent in high-temperature stability in place of a metal detergent, and the lubricating oil composition or the fuel composition containing this additive can suitably be used as the lubricant or the fuel for an internal combustion engine which can comply with future exhaust gas controls.
Abstract: Disclosed are a lubricating oil composition for a diesel engine having a decreased ash content which can exert excellent engine detergency and deposit-resistant properties without impairing the performance of an exhaust gas post-treatment device such as a particulate exhaust matter trap or an oxidation catalyst, and a method for the lubrication of the diesel engine which comprises using this lubricating oil composition. The present invention provides a lubricating oil composition for a diesel engine which is obtained by blending a lubricant base oil with (A) 5 to 20% by weight of a boron-containing ashless dispersant and (B) 0.01 to 30% by weight of metal-type detergents having a total base number of 0 to 200 mg KOH/g, based on the total weight of the composition, a sulfated ash content in the composition being 1.0% by weight or less, a boron content being 0.
