Abstract: This invention relates to an external structuring agent for application in liquid detergent and personal care products. It has been found that cellulose based particles, which comprise cell wall material and their networks of cellulose based fibers and nanofibrils can advantageously be used to structure liquid detergent and personal care products, providing certain benefits that are much sought after in the design of such products. It is assumed that the organization of the cellulose fibrils, as it exists in the parenchymal cell walls, is at least partly retained in the cellulose based particles of the invention, even though part of the pectin and hemicellulose is removed there from. The process of making the structuring agent involves processing under relatively mild conditions, of a biological material that is currently considered a by-product.

Abstract: A cleaning product comprising about 1% to 5% by weight cornstarch; about 17% to 27% by weight of an acid with a pH of about 2.5–3.5; about 52% to 62% by weight of a surfactant; about 7% to 17% by weight NaCl, wherein said cornstarch, said acid, said surfactant, and said NaCl are added together and heated to a slow bubbling boil and said cleaning composition appears smooth and milk-like in appearance and then heat reduced; and about 4% to 8% by weight oxalic acid dehydrate wherein said oxalic acid dehydrate is provided from the source manufactured under the tradename Barkeeper's Friend by SerVaas Laboratories of Indianapolis, Ind. and further wherein said compound is added after heat is reduced. The cleaning composition is useful for cleaning various types of metals.
Abstract: An inhibitor especially useful for aqueous solutions being used at high temperatures to remove scale from boiler tubes and the like contains (1) amines including a substituent group with an abietyl nucleus, (2) organic compounds or polymers that contain at least 2—OH moieties per molecule and at least 0.4 —OH moieties per carbon atom, (3) organic molecules that contain a carbon-sulfur bond, and (4) surfactant.
Abstract: The invention relates to a descaling formulation comprising cellulose microfibrils, in which at least 80% of the cells have primary walls and not more than 20% of the cells have secondary walls, with a degree of crystallinity of not more than 50%. The pH of the formulation is less than or equal to 1 and more particularly less than or equal to 0.5.
Abstract: There is provided a composition comprising tannin containing hydroxyl groups which has been (a) chemically modified by reaction of at least one of said hydroxyl groups with at least one member selected from the group consisting of an esterification agent (e.g. acetic anhydride), etherification agent (e.g. dichloromethane or quaternary organic amine such as N-(3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride) to form the corresponding ester, or ether, through said hydroxyl group, and (b) derivatized. The chemically modified tannin is derivatized by reaction with aldehyhde (e.g. formaldehyde), or aldehyde and at least one member selected from the group consisting of ammonia and organic amine containing at least one primary or secondary nitrogen (e.g. cyclohexyl amine); said derivatized tannin being water soluble or dispersable at a pH below 7 and water insoluble at a pH above 7.

Abstract: Methods for inhibiting the attachment of microbes to surfaces in aqueous systems are disclosed. Copolymers of a tannin and a cationic monomer are added to aqueous systems, such as papermaking and cooling water systems, to inhibit microbial attachment to surfaces which cause slime formation problems.
