    Abstract: Here we describe the molecular identification of a cDNA encoding a novel serine protease we have termed protease T. The deduced amino acid sequence encodes a prepro form of 290 amino acids, and its alignment with other well-characterized serine proteases indicates that it is a member of the S1 serine protease family. We have found that the protease T mRNA is expressed in stomach, testis, retina, fibroblasts, spinal cord, and several regions of the brain. Protease T mRNA is also found in leukocytes and in the Jurkat (ATCC TIB-152) T cell line. Thus, this protease is potentially involved in gastric, testicular, retinal, dematological, neurological/neurodegenerative and/or immunological disorders. The protease T gene maps to human chromosome 16p13.3 which is near the tryptase locus. Enzymatically active protease T, we have generated, is amenable to further biochemical analyses for the identification of physiological substrates and specific modulators.

    Abstract: The present invention is a blood and organic stain remover which includes in a first embodiment a protease, an amylase, an enzyme stabilizing system such as a source of calcium, an alcohol, and an alkanolamine, a nonionic detergent, and water. In a second embodiment, the blood and organic stain remover includes a protease, an amylase, an enzyme stabilizing system, a nonionic detergent, an anionic detergent, and water. In the second embodiment the enzyme stabilizing system preferably includes a petroleum distillate. A system of using the aqueous blood and organic stain remover composition in a prepackaged wipe which permits the user to remove blood and organic spots or to pre-spot blood and organic stains prior to washing without the need for direct skin contact with the spot is also provided.

The granule can be produced by mixing an aqueous enzyme liquid with an inorganic or organic carrier material to form an enzyme compound, extruding the enzyme compound, spheronizing the extrudate, and applying an outer coating layer of the coating system listed above to form an enzyme granule having a mean particle size of 0.8 to 1.4 millimeters. The coated enzyme granule has increased storage stability, even coloration, reduced odor, and releases enzyme activity quickly in water. The enzyme granule is useful in solid detergents.
