  • Patent number: 9358239
Abstract: The accumulation of abnormal proteins in neurodegenerative disorders is considered to induce oxidative stress and lead to cell death. Thus suppression of abnormal protein aggregation and reducing oxidative stress or reactive oxygen species (ROS) are expected to inhibit a wide range of harmful downstream events, providing an observation for identifying the potential prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders comprising spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA), Alzheimer's disease (AD) or Parkinson's disease (PD). In the present invention, there are several cell and animal experiment models for SCA, AD and PD established, and NiSOD-like compounds were applied to these experiment models. The results have demonstrated how NiSOD-like compounds are likely to work in suppressing abnormal protein aggregation, recovering cell viability, increasing mature neuron number and neurite outgrowth length and protecting dopaminergic cells by reducing oxidative stress or reactive oxygen species in brain tissues.

Abstract: There is provided an antifouling coating composition capable of forming an antifouling coating film which has stable coating film consumption degree on ships, underwater structures and the like and which exhibits excellent antifouling property over a long term. The antifouling coating composition includes a hydrolyzable copolymer (A) and an antifouling agent (B), wherein the hydrolyzable copolymer (A) is, e.g., a metal salt bond-containing copolymer having a component unit derived from a monomer (a21) represented by the general formula (II): CH2?C(R2)—COO-M-O—CO—C(R2)?CH2??(II) [In the formula (II), M is zinc or copper, and R2 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group], and a component unit derived from other unsaturated monomer (a22) copolymerizable with the monomer (a21), and wherein the antifouling agent (B) includes at least medetomidine.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to make it possible that a pyridine antibacterial/antifungal agent is dispersed stably in a liquid for appropriate impartation of the pyridine antibacterial/antifungal agent to fibers, and that when fibers are processed with the agent which is mixed with various other treating agents such as dyes and softeners, there is no negative influences on the process of the fibers for imparting antibacterial/antifungal properties. An antibacterial/antifungal properties-imparting agent contains a pyridine antibacterial/antifungal agent; a modified polysaccharide having reduced hydroxyl groups; and a wetting agent; but does not contain a surfactant. After applying the antibacterial/antifungal properties-imparting agent to fibers, the fibers undergo a heating process.
