Abstract: Biocides for bio-based binder compositions are disclosed. Bio-based binders include those having a nutrient source such as carbohydrate, protein or fat, which can serve as an energy source for organisms to grow in areas that contact binder. Principal areas that contact bio-based binder in a fiberglass insulation manufacturing process include the raw ingredients, the binder chemicals, the prepared binder dispersions, the forming hood and related equipment, the final insulation product and, importantly, the cleaning systems and washwater arising from cleaning the manufacturing equipment and/or forming the product. Frequently the washwater is stored until re-cycled for re-use. Storage may take place in tanks, towers, vats and even outdoor reservoirs, all of which may harbor the growth of unwanted organisms, for which a biocide is desirable.

  • Patent number: 8551916
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for obtaining O/W emulsions by emulsifying various to-be-emulsified material without the use of any organic solvent, and drying and making into powder the O/W emulsion. The invention relates to a method for producing an O/W emulsion including after preliminarily dispersing a to-be-emulsified material and an interfacially active organic compound in water, heating the preliminary dispersion to a temperature equal to or higher than the melting point of the to-be-emulsified material and equal to or higher than the phase transition temperature of a self-assembled product of the interfacially active organic compound in the absence of an organic solvent, and performing emulsification under a pressure.

Abstract: Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF; a stem cell enhancer and facilitator), DETC-MeSO (a glutamate receptor partial antagonist and anti-excitotoxicity agent), and sulindac (a potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agent) each can protect brain tissue exposed to a cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, and minimize the size of infarcts that develop as a result of the injury. When administered in combination, these agents are effective at protecting brain tissue and minimizing the size of an infarct resulting from the injury at much lower concentrations compared to using a single agent.

Abstract: The use of polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride as preservative for preventing and controlling citrus sour rot and its application are disclosed by the present invention. The citrus preservative calculated by 100% total mass fraction comprises 0.05%-0.5% polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride, 0.05%-0.2% of one or more selected from the group consisting of a mixture of several of the following: 0.05%-0.2% imidazole fungicidebactericide, benzimidazole fungicidebactericide, pyrimethanil, fludioxonil and [or] azoxystrobin, and 0.02%-0.15% polyethenoxy ether emulsion or quaternary ammonium salt emulsion, and the rest is water. The citrus preservative can significantly inhibit the decay of citrus fruit such as Citrus microcarpa during storage, especially the incidence of sour rot. So the commercial value of citrus is obviously increased.

  • Patent number: 8519010
Abstract: What is described herein are antimicrobial compositions which are defined blends of a 1,2-diol and phenoxyethanol which show broad activity against bacteria, fungi and mold spores. This activity is potentiated by the addition thereto of small amounts of a co-biocide for which the blend acts as a delivery system for the otherwise water-insoluble co-biocide.
