  • Patent number: 8529915
Abstract: Short-chain 2- to 3-carbon alcohols are used as solvents for cooling agents in the preparation of topical therapeutic and cosmetic formulations. Some of these alcohols, especially ethanol, inhibit the ability of the cooling agent to activate its target receptor. In one embodiment of this invention, (R)-1,2-propanediol is used as an alcoholic solvent for the topical delivery of cooling agents to biological surfaces. This propanediol enantiomer has a minimum inhibitory effect on cooling with respect to standard 2- to 3-carbon alcoholic solvents, and functions to substantially protect the agent's cooling activity from inhibition when in the presence of a short-chain alcohol.

Abstract: 3% Glycerin plus 3% amino acids intravenously used for nutritional purposes produces a rapid remission of an acute exacerbation in Behcet's Disease. External manifestations such as oral, vulva, penile and skin lesions rapidly heal when Glycerin is added to the amino acids. While the disease process in Behcet's Disease is likely improved by amino acids alone, the robustness of the healing of open lesions and the overall well-being of the patient in acute exacerbations is greatly enhanced by the addition of 3% Glycerin to the IV fluid. IV 3% Glycerin and 3% Amino Acids also produced remissions in Myasthenia Gravis, Guillain-Barre Disease, and Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy. 3% Glycerin with amino acids could cause healing in many autoimmune diseases and can help external and internal lesions to heal. Glycerin also prevents bacteria from forming a biofilm which in most infections is necessary for the bacteria to become pathologic.

A polyhalogenic vehicle such as methoxyonafluorobutane or ethoxyonafluorobutane serves as a coupler for an active agent and a silicone carrier so as to allow solubilization of active agents not normally miscible in silicones and providing a moisture maintaining composition.

  • Patent number: 8318816
Abstract: Compositions and methods for transport or release of therapeutic and diagnostic agents or metabolites or other analytes from cells, compartments within cells, or through cell layers or barriers are described. The compositions include a membrane barrier transport enhancing agent and are usually administered in combination with an enhancer and/or exposure to stimuli to effect disruption or altered permeability, transport or release. In a preferred embodiment, the compositions include compounds which disrupt endosomal membranes in response to the low pH in the endosomes but which are relatively inactive toward cell membranes (at physiologic pH, but can become active toward cell membranes if the environment is acidified below ca. pH 6.8), coupled directly or indirectly to a therapeutic or diagnostic agent. Other disruptive agents can also be used, responsive to stimuli and/or enhancers other than pH, such as light, electrical stimuli, electromagnetic stimuli, ultrasound, temperature, or combinations thereof.

  • Publication number: 20120282172
Abstract: The present invention provides a system presenting site-specific accumulation through a ligand that specifically targets a receptor overexpressed on the surface of specific cells within a target organ, like, for example, tumor cells and/or vascular cells of tumor blood vessels. Moreover, this invention provides a method where, upon internalization of the previous-mentioned system by the target cells, triggered release at a high rate of the associated agent takes place, permitting efficient intracellular delivery and, thus, increased concentration of the transported cargo at the target site. Overall, this invention provides a method for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of human diseases and disorders.
