  • Patent number: 10604713
Abstract: A method for reducing the propensity of a fuel to form an emulsion comprises combining an additive having a chemical structure comprising a 6-membered aromatic ring sharing two adjacent aromatic carbon atoms with a 6- or 7-membered saturated heterocyclic ring, the 6- or 7-membered saturated heterocyclic ring comprising a nitrogen atom directly bonded to one of the shared carbon atoms to form a secondary amine and an atom selected from oxygen or nitrogen directly bonded to the other shared carbon atom, the remaining atoms in the 6- or 7-membered heterocyclic ring being carbon with the fuel. Thus, the additive may be used as a demulsifier in a fuel.

Abstract: This invention relates to novel compounds derived from the reaction of diamines or polyamines with alkylene oxides. The invention also relates to novel compounds derived from the reaction of amine terminated polyethers with epoxide functional compounds. The novel compounds of the invention are particularly useful as wetting and foam control agents. The disclosed compounds exhibit exceptional antifoaming and defoaming activity while simultaneously reducing the dynamic surface tension when incorporated at low levels in water-based systems.

  • Patent number: 7659316
Abstract: Foams suitable for such uses as landfill coverage, frost protection, volatile emission control, gas control in mining, are composed of a hydrolyzable protein and a pre-gelatinized cationic modified starch along with other ingredients. The foam concentrate can be made at ambient temperature, is stable over time, can be easily tailored to achieve a desired foam stiffness and drain time characteristic over wide ranges, and can be easily diluted at ambient temperature to produce a foamable composition.

  • Publication number: 20090306232
Abstract: The present invention includes the use of anhydride compositions, including alkyl and aryl anhydrides, for use as a demulsifier in resolving water external emulsions of water and oil and complex emulsions of water and oil. In particular, the anhydride composition can be used alone or in a blend with other demulsifiers. Suitable anhydrides suitable for the present invention include acetic and propionic, with acetic anhydride being preferred. The anhydride composition can be added directly to crude oil emulsions or other compositions to be resolved. As such, the demulsifier composition includes an anhydride, such as acetic anhydride, alone or in combination with other demulsifiers. The anhydride can be used in an amount ranging between trace and 100% by weight of the demulsifier composition.

  • Patent number: 6623658
Abstract: An additive for controlling the detrimental effects of secondary recycled contaminants in the papermaking process. In the preferred embodiment, the additive includes a first low molecular weight, cationic water-soluble polymer and a second low molecular weight, cationic, water-soluble polymer, wherein the first low molecular weight, cationic, water-soluble polymer and the second low molecular weight, cationic, water-soluble polymer are co-reacted. In the preferred embodiment, the effective amount of the additive is determined by measuring about a 50 PPM reduction in soluble charge of the liquid base after adding the additive to the liquid base. In the most preferred embodiment, the reduction in soluble charge is between about 50 and 150 PPM as measured by determining the electrophoretic mobility of the liquid base with and without the additive.
