Abstract: The invention relates to a method (100) for selecting the composition of a construction material including an excavated clay soil, said construction material composition to include deflocculating agent and activating agent quantities adapted to the excavated clay soil, said method including a step of receiving (130) a measured value of at least one physicochemical property of an excavated clay soil, and a step of selecting (170) a deflocculating agent quantity and an activating agent quantity adapted to the excavated clay soil. In addition, the invention also relates to a method (200) for calibrating a calculation algorithm for determining the composition of a site construction material, to a construction material formed from an excavated clay soil, and to a system (400) for preparing a construction material including an excavated clay soil.

Abstract: An asphalt based sealer for driveways and the like is disclosed. The material uses a blend of solvent deasphalted (SDA) asphalt blended with a cutter stock as the binder or sealer base. Driveway sealer (an emulsion of clay, water and binder) made with this binder has acceptable durability and can be essentially free of coal tar pitch, greatly reducing the toxicity and odor of the sealer.
Abstract: A low softening point pitch is disclosed. A high melting point (100° C.+) pitch is blended with an aromatic rich liquid hydrocarbon stream to form a pourable pitch mixture having a softening point of 30-50° C. which can be used as a partial or complete replacement for coal tar pitch used in driveway sealer and other sealer and coating applications. Driveway sealer (an emulsion of clay, water and binder) made with this pitch has enhanced durability. The low softening point pitch, even when blended with coal tar pitch, is phase stable on storage.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of an aqueous tar suspoemulsion includes the steps of mixing a mixture including (a) a viscous tar composition formed from a tar, from inorganic solids and, optionally, from water; (b) water (W); (c) a surface-active agent (SA) exhibiting a hydrophilicity/lipophilicity balance (HLB) of at least 10; and, optionally, (d) a thickening water-soluble polymer (TWP) with a molecular mass of greater than 10,000. The relative amounts of constituents (W), (SA) and, optionally, (TWP) are such that the viscosity of the (W)+(SA)+optional (TWP) mixture is preferably equal to or greater than the viscosity of the tar. An optional embodiment of the process provides for dilution of the mixture obtained with water or with an aqueous acidic solution.
