  • Patent number: 6915581
Abstract: A novel guide is disclosed for fixing to a cutting tool for cutting a piece of sheet material having a plurality of fiducial lines marked thereon. The guide has a set of alignment marks and a plurality of measurement scales associated with the alignment marks. Each measurement scale corresponds to at least one of the fiducial lines, such that when one of the alignment marks is aligned with a particular fiducial line, the measurement scale corresponding to the particular fiducial line indicates the distance of the blade of the cutting tool from an edge of the sheet material. Particular embodiments of the guide include a flat portion attached to the front of the cutting tool, or alternately, a laser guide rotatably fixed to the front of the cutting tool. Novel methods for cutting a predetermined distance from an edge of a piece of sheet material using the guides of the present invention is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6760978
Abstract: The present invention involves building sheets with a plurality of grooves indented into a surface of the building sheet to provide a guide for cutting the building sheet along the grooves. Preferably, the grooves are arranged in a regularly repeating pattern and are spaced apart by a standard unit of measurement in order for a cutter to accurately size the building sheet to a precise dimension. A simple scoring knife is preferably used to score the sheet along the grooves, without the need for a straight edge, and the sheet is broken by simply bending the sheet of along the score mark. The grooves are preferably provided at a depth into the surface the sheet such that they do not substantially decrease the strength of the sheet or affect off-groove scoring. • Patent number: 6754995
Abstract: A panel for forming on-site a multi-function channel. The panel is a sheet of material that is rectangular-shaped, slightly compressible, thermally insulating, and has a pair of pre-printed channel flange fold lines that extend the entire length thereof and which form a pair of channel flanges when the sheet of material is folded perpendicularly upwardly thereon, and a trio of pre-printed soffit vent baffle panel fold lines that extend the entire width thereof and have a selected one thereof forming a soffit vent baffle panel when the sheet of material is folded perpendicularly downwardly thereon. When the pair of channel flanges are intimately abutted against a pair of parallel, adjacent, and spaced-apart framing members, the sheet of material compresses enough to provide an outward force sufficient to allow the multi-function channel to be self-restraining between, and by, the pair of parallel, adjacent, and spaced-apart framing members without a need for fasteners.

The buck may also include anchoring fins around which the poured concrete may harden to securely attach the buck to the wall and enhance the seal therebetween.

Abstract: The invention provides improved masking for monolithic panes, insulating glass units, and other substrates. In some embodiments, the protective covering comprises a plurality of strips of masking material. In some embodiments, the protective covering (which may take the form of a single masking sheet or of multiple masking strips) is sized, shaped, and positioned such that an oversized masked portion of a pane surface has a lesser area than the pane surface itself but has a greater than an exposed central region of the pane surface that remains exposed (i.e., is left uncovered) by a frame when the pane is mounted in the frame. In some embodiments, a pane is mounted to a frame such that at least one edge of the pane is received in the frame. The pane has a protective covering disposed over a masked portion of a major surface of the pane. This major surface has an unmasked apron between an outer periphery of the protective covering and an outer periphery of the pane.

Abstract: A flooring system includes a board (6) having a lower surface (2) in which arcuate grooves (3) are formed. Grooves (3) are arranged in a grid, having points of intersection (5). Each groove (3) extends from one edge of the board to the opposite edge of the board. The grooves serve to enable the passage of electrical wire which might be used for telephones, computers, hi-fi systems or other applications. The system makes such cabling unobtrusive and is particularly suitable where access to an under floor area is limited or non-existent.

  • Patent number: 6526716
Abstract: A measurement indicia scheme applied to a main runner of a suspended grid structure to establish a correct border distance of the main runner and between an associated wall angle and interconnecting cross runners. The main runner defines, in cross section, a tile support lip, a web extending from the support lip, and a plurality of elongated channels being formed through first and second opposite faces of the web at axially spaced apart intervals and between a first end and a second end. The measurement indicia scheme is applied to the main runner and extends from at least one of the first and second ends of the runner. The indicia scheme coincides with the placement and location of at least a first of the elongated channels positioned relative the selected and main runner end. The indicia scheme further establishes a defined distance from a second and succeeding elongated channel positioned along the main runner.

Abstract: A wall angle for use in installing a suspended ceiling grid structure within a walled enclosure, the grid structure including a plurality of main grid runners and hanger wires suspending the main runners from an overhead support of the room enclosure. The wall angle includes an elongated body defining, in cross section, an angled profile with a first side and a second interconnecting and extending side. A first series of markings are placed at first selected one foot length intervals along the body and for marking first iterative locations for engagement of the main runners and hanger wires. A second series of markings are placed at second selected length intervals, typically at sixteen or twenty-four inch intervals, along the body and for marking locations for engagement of the wall angle to vertically extending wall studs of the walled enclosure.

  • Patent number: 6494014
Abstract: A framing template for use in the framing of a building structure. The template has a plurality of groups of printed measuring indicia, each measuring indicia comprising a centering mark. The centering marks for each group have a predetermined spacing therebetween. The centering marks of each group may include numbers, colors or shaped symbols indicative of a repetitive measured distance from a zero reference point of the template. The centering marks also include indicia indicating the total distance the centering mark is from the zero reference point. The numbers are readable regardless if the template is secured on a horizontal or a vertical surface. In another broad aspect, the present invention contemplates permanently affixing the template, such as with printing, on building materials requiring measurements for integrating into the building structure.
