  • Patent number: 8756884
Abstract: A method is provided for coupling individual fenestration units together and sealing the gaps between them so as to form a sealed compound fenestration unit. The individual fenestration units include mating channels and tabs, or other connectors, that are attached to outside frame surfaces of the individual fenestration units. When the connectors are coupled together, they attach the frames of the individual fenestration units securely together in such a way that gaps are formed between the units along their joined frame surfaces. The gaps are sealed by resilient sealing strips that are configured to be inserted into the gaps, and that are formed with seals that bear against the walls of the gaps to form impervious moisture seals.

  • Patent number: 8613171
Abstract: A flood barrier system for windows for inhibiting a water breach into a residential or commercial structure. The flood barrier is adapted to fit within a retaining wall cavity using an expansion member to assist a mechanical seal so as to stop water intrusion. The barrier operates with an extruded frame having vertical reveal members and high strength glass. A sealing joint is fitted about the retaining wall and the flood barrier's vertical reveal members for inhibition of flood seepage. The sealing joint, having at least three surfaces forming an open end and a tapered end, is anchored at the bottom wall of the extruded frame member and about the glass flood barrier's vertical reveal members at least 12 inches above the base flood elevation level. Alternatively, a flood panel can be installed in front of the windows for additional protection against water intrusion into the residential or commercial structure.

  • Publication number: 20070144106
Abstract: As installation clip for use in supporting a window, such as a mulled window, during installation in a building wall opening, and reinforcing the window after installation against the pressures of wind or the like. The installation clip is of unitary construction with a generally flat base portion, and a set of counterextending, raised tab portions projecting upwardly and outwardly from one side of the base portion. The height and width of the raised tab portions are selected to conform substantially to the dimensions of a recess in the bottom frame member of the window with which the clip is to be used. The installation clip is mounted to the sill structure of the building wall opening, with its tab portions facing into the center of the opening, and the window is inserted into the opening onto the mounted clip. The raised tab portions of the clip engage in the recess in the window bottom frame, and hold the window in place while it is permanently secured in the opening by conventional means.

  • Patent number: 6922957
Abstract: An opening in a building wall is closed by a building closure such as a window or door. A mounting part of the closure arrangement is received in a space between two countersupport surfaces formed by a U-channel or opposite L-members that protrude perpendicularly from the sill or jamb surface of the wall bounding the opening. Mounting brackets secure the U-channel or L-members to the wall. On one or both sides, a respective damping element is interposed between the mounting part and the respective adjacent countersupport surface. The damping element may be a plastically deformable metal strip. When an explosion force acts on the closure arrangement, the damping element is first plastically deformed to absorb energy, before the remaining force is transmitted into the building wall. The two damping elements on opposite sides damp forces from the positive and negative pressure waves of the explosion.
