  • Patent number: 7454865
Abstract: Metal cladding as jamb cover assemblies and mullion cover assemblies, for door frames and mullions, using extrusions as cladding over substrates. A jamb cover assembly includes a jamb plate, a nosing, and a nailing fin. The nailing fin extends from a distal side of the assembly. Accordingly, the frame can be secured in a rough opening of a building with the nosing assembled to the jamb plate, and using the nailing fin for the securement, without any assembly or disassembly of the frame at the construction site. Regarding the mullion cover assembly, first and second jamb plates are on opposing sides of a mullion substrate. A mullion nosing is assembled to the jamb plates, and bridges the jamb plates to join together the two jamb plates and the nosing, to provide complete overlayment of the outer surface of the mullion substrate and to space the front panel of the nosing from the outer surface of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 7451571
Abstract: A flashing and associated assembly and method for directing water along an interface between a roof and a wall are provided. The flashing, which can be formed as a unitary molded plastic member, has an angled configuration. In particular, a roof portion of the flashing is configured to be disposed on the roof, and first and second flanges extend perpendicularly from the roof portion to define a continuous passage for receiving water. The flanges define an obtuse angle therebetween so that when one flange is disposed against the wall the other flange is configured to direct water flowing along the passage away from the wall. The flashing can be reversible so that the same flashing can be selectively installed at wall-roof interfaces of different configurations.

Abstract: A door sill-to-jamb kit manufactured from rot-resistant thermoplastic material is placed between a bottom of a side jamb and a sill of a door frame assembly. Parallel tenons fitting into mortises at the base of the side jamb and fasteners secure the door sill-to-jamb kit to the side jamb as well as to the door sill. Elevated height of the side jamb prevents contact with moisture on the surface of door sill and between the door sill-to-jamb kit and the door sill, thus reducing a risk of rotting of the wooden side jamb.

  • Patent number: 6829863
Abstract: A door jamb protector has a protective sheet and four elongate spring strips that together function to protect the door jamb. The protective sheet includes a top surface and an opposing bottom surface bounded by a first longitudinal edge, a second longitudinal edge, and a pair of opposing lateral edges. The first longitudinal edge is opposite the second longitudinal edge. Each of the four elongate spring strips has a convex surface, a concave surface, a first end, and a second end. Each of the four elongate spring strips has the property of self-coiling when either the first or second end is bent back over the convex surface. Each of the four elongate spring strips is associated with the protective sheet such that the first end is generally adjacent to the first longitudinal edge, the second end is generally adjacent to the second longitudinal edge, and the four elongate spring strips are generally parallel to each other.

Abstract: A hinged protective cover for protecting a door threshold during construction or modification of a building or its contents. The cover is attached to a horizontal surface such as a building floor and covers the door threshold to prevent damage from foot traffic, contaminants and grit materials which may become lodged in the threshold. The hinge allows positioning of the protective cover to permit door closure while remaining attached to the floor. This leaves the cover in place for repositioning to the protecting position when the door is reopened and serves as an affirmative reminder to accomplish same.

  • Patent number: 6826877
Abstract: The invention provides a removable and reusable door frame guard for a door frame comprising a door jamb, door stop and trim molding attached to a plaster wall. The guard comprises an elongated member having a substantially planar web with depending parallel side panels normal to the planar web. One or both of the side panels terminate with two right angled flanges adaptable for a gripping action with the trim molding and plaster wall. For the hinge side, one side panel has a width about equal to the width of the door stop and about terminates at the jamb, and this narrow panel is adaptable to abut the side of the door stop, as well as the jamb along the marginal edge, thereby providing a gripping action at this side of the guard. Thus, when the guard component is installed over the door frame, the elongated member is adaptable to at least partially engage the door jamb and abut the door stop, and at least one side of the guard is adaptable to grip the trim molding.

  • Patent number: 6807783
Abstract: A window frame molding system with removeable and interchangeable moldings of the present invention provide an organizational system which can be used to install, change, and remove window frame moldings while not damaging the window frame itself. For a rectangular installation, the entire structure can consist of four straight pieces of metal, plastic, synthetics, or wood, as mounting members, with the ends either flat or cut angularly at 45°, as the base of the structure. Further, four decorative moldings and four junction pieces of metal, plastic, synthetics, or wood, interfit with the mounting member in a configuration with the moldings being slide locked into place and the junction pieces securing the decorative moldings in place. Because of the variety of materials which can be used to make the window frame moldings, they are both inexpensive and easy to manufacture.
