  • Patent number: 8205403
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns a system, methods and compositions for attaching architectural panels to a building surface, such as a wall. In certain embodiments, the system comprises panels, each with upper, lower and side interlocking members. In a preferred embodiment, the upper and lower interlocking members form a modified tongue and groove joint, with a 45 degree angle interface, while the side interlocking members form a ship lap joint. The upper and lower interlocking members may be designed to press the panels against the building surface and to hide the locations of screws or other attachment devices when the interlocking members are engaged. The system provides a stronger and more secure attachment of panels to a building surface, while eliminating the problem of having to disguise the location of the attachment devices where such devices are inserted directly through the surface of the panel.

  • Patent number: 8201373
Abstract: The liner for concrete forms is a plastic matrix for simulating the mortar grooves conventionally formed in masonry construction. The liner is placed within a concrete form, and the concrete is poured thereover. The form is removed after the concrete sets, thereby exposing the surface with the liner still remaining therein. The surface of the concrete panel may then be treated as desired to produce a surface finish resembling brick or other masonry construction, e.g., sandblasted or coated with stucco or other material, with the liner remaining in place to protect the simulated mortar grooves. Once the surface of the concrete panel has been treated as desired, the liner is removed to expose the natural concrete surface within the grooves, with this natural concrete surface closely resembling the mortar joints in a masonry wall.

Abstract: A muntin clip has a bar support adapted to be connected to a muntin bar end and a base member adapted to be connected to a spacer frame. The bar support has a plurality of flexible support members attached thereto, which are adapted to contact the opposed interior walls of the muntin bar end and deform in response to such contact. The base member has two flexible members forming a flexible latching structure which is adapted to deform when inserted into the spacer frame. The muntin clip to be used with muntin bars and spacer frames having a range of different dimensions and configurations.

Abstract: A method of forming a building panel is provided, with the building panel including facer and liner sheets surrounding a foam core. The method includes the steps of pre-notching the facer sheet at each false joint, roll forming the side joints of the facer sheet, bending the facer sheet, via a press operation, at the pre-notched area to form the false joint, such that the facer sheet is a continuous sheet across the false joint, and bonding the facer sheet having the false joint and the liner sheet to the foam core to form the building panel.

Abstract: A laminated shingle has a rendered shadow design when placed with other similar shingles on a roof deck. The laminated shingle includes an overlay member and an underlay member fixedly attached to each other. The overlay member includes an upper or headlamp portion and a lower or exposed butt portion with one or more tabs separated by cutouts. The overlay member is also coated with a layer of relatively dark granules to form horizontally-oriented overlay shading areas on the upper and lower edges of the tabs. The underlay member is coated with a layer of relatively dark granules to form vertically and horizontally-oriented underlay shading areas. In one embodiment, one or both vertical edges of each tab are generally parallel to the vertically-oriented longitudinal axis of the vertically-oriented shading area to expose a portion of the shading area.

Abstract: A plastic molded wall covering that includes a plurality of one piece plastic molded corner moldings mounted in a vertically stacked array. The corner moldings each have a pair of front panels disposed at an angle to each other and formed with simulated building elements, such as hand laid stone. The corner moldings have respective upper and lower interlock devices and internal support and reinforcing walls extending rearwardly of the front panels in interconnecting relation to the interlock devices. The internal support and reinforcing walls have a curved serpentine configuration with a curved junction line with the respective front panels such that any plastic molded sink mark exposed on a front side of the front panels from the integrally formed internal walls similarly is undulating so as to blend into the simulated building elements and not detract from its natural appearance.

Abstract: A surface veneer for simulating the appearance of stone, tile, concrete, leather, wood, stucco, etc. is disclosed. The veneer may be made by producing a mold of a desired texture, filling the mold with a mixture including portland-type cement, resin, and colorant, with the mixture being impregnated with a support mesh. The veneer may be made to have an average thickness between about 1/16 and ΒΌ inches in a sheet form. When produced, the veneer is flexible, being able to conform to various surfaces and applied to various surfaces using any of various adhesives, and able to be transported is a finished form to an installation site. The veneer may also be finished prior to installation with a wide range of surface finishes and textures.

Abstract: A stone work simulation system including panels formed from a cementitious material. The panels of the system can be cast or injection molded from cementitious slurry, including hydraulic cement, or gypsum cement and an optional latex/water mixture. A desired amount of the slurry is added to the mold, the surface of which includes several spaced apart depressions formed therein to closely resemble a pattern of stones at least partially disposed in a mortar matrix. Optionally, the mold can include a number of flat spaces formed between the depressions. Optionally, a reinforcing mesh is also provided in the mold. A colorant can be disposed on the bottom mold surface prior to the introduction of the mesh and the slurry to impart a color pattern to the system. After sufficient curing, the panel is removed from the mold and is ready for immediate use and/or further processing, such as additional surface coloring. In use, the system can be mounted to a building surface, such as a wall, e.g.
