  • Patent number: 5177920
Abstract: The invention relates to a cross-connector of plastic material for hollow profiled window grill bars introduced into the insulating space of an insulated window assembly consisting of two panes. Such a cross-connector consists of four legs positioned perpendicularly to one another and being configured such that they be inserted into the ends of the hollow profiled window grill bars in order to become fixed with these bars which are fixed to the peripheral frame of the window at their other ends. The present invention achieves the advantages of increased flexure and torsional strengths, and lower weight, while using a plastic material containing break-throughs, or alternatively, recesses. In addition, angled pins positioned oblique to the direction of insertion of the cross-connector legs result in a tighter, more permanent connection.

  • Patent number: 4704834
Abstract: A raised panel-style door and method of making same are described. The structure includes a solid core having a planar veneer support surface regularly interrupted by channels extending in a rectangular course. The channels are inlaid with picture frames formed of decorative wood strips having marginal edges in the plane of the veneer support surface and being recessed therebetween. When overlaid with veneer, surface regions outside the picture frames are made to look like stiles and rails, while those inside are made to look like panels. The door may also have an internal fire-retardant layer.

  • Patent number: 4702054
Abstract: A raised panel door having a core panel extending within it and panel inserts lodged within the voids of a lattice structure presented on opposite sides of the door. Molding strips overlay and conceal regions where the inserts abut against expanses in the lattice structure defining the voids. A veneer overlay covers margins of the molding strips.

  • Patent number: 4702055
Abstract: A grill structure for use in connection with a combination screen and storm door, the grill being formed of vertical and horizontal channel members, the horizontal members comprising segments spacing the vertical members, rods extending through the channels of the horizontal members, the channels each having a rib therein and the rods each having a slot therein to receive a rod whereby the rods are non-rotatably disposed through the channels of said horizontal members to secure the framework of the grill, U-channel members from the perimeter of the grill and screws applied through said U-channel members into the ends of said rods secure the structure. The rods are held free from rotation and torsion therealong in securing the screws and the rods need not be held by hand against rotation as the screws are applied.

  • Patent number: 4665663
Abstract: Muntin bar molded anchors are installed on the interior edges of a window sash or sliding door frame by utilizing a two-part anchor holding and nail driving device which is stabilized during use. Molded clips are frictionally installed in recesses formed in the ends of mountain bars and the clips are snap locked over crowned surfaces of the anchors to complete the installation of the muntin assembly.

  • Patent number: 4652472
Abstract: A sealed window unit includes decorative muntin bars formed by pultruded strips of thickness very much less than the spacing between the panes of the window unit so that the strips can be interwoven and extend from one side to the other side for attachment to the spacer strips of the sealed window unit by pegs cut at the ends of the strips during a length cutting process.

  • Patent number: 4644721
Abstract: The present invention is a fastener system and method of using a fastener for removably securing bar grilles in window and door frames. A fastener having a tip or point at one end is inserted between a glass and a frame. The fastener has a pair of fins extending substantially perpendicularly from one surface and away from the glass. When appropriate mechanical forces are applied, the fins are bendable toward each other and have a tendency to return to their approximate original position after the forces are released. A slot is provided in the surface of a bar grille which comes into contact with the glass. The bar grille is snapped on the fastener so that the fins are forced toward each other as they enter the slot and are hooked into position as the fins return to their approximate original position. The bar grille may be removed by pulling on the grille so that fins disengage from the slot.

  • Patent number: 4610901
Abstract: This invention relates to devices and methods of manufacturing cut glass panels which comprise a plurality of glass panes arranged in a predetermined pattern with novel came flanges that span the adjacent edges of the glass panes on both sides of the panel. In this manufacturing method, a pair of complementary came-flange gridworks that correspond to mirror images of the predetermined pattern are first constructed. The cut glass panes are then positioned between the inner surfaces of the complementary gridworks so that the edges of each pane are separated from the edges of adjacent panes by spaces that form a network of continuous interconnected channels, and so that those channels are completely spanned by and sandwiched between the inner surfaces of the complementary came-flange gridworks. In a preferred embodiment, the outer surface of one of the gridworks is then sealed to all adjacent glass surfaces with a releasable cement. The cemented came-pane assemblage so formed is detached from the other gridwork.

  • Patent number: 4598520
Abstract: An insulated window panel is provided with pseudo sash bar lattices that are affixed, preferably by dual-sided adhesive foam tape, in coincidental alignment to the outwardly facing transparent surfaces of the panel. Dual-and triple-glazed window panels constructed in accordance with the present invention have the appearance of being constructed of a plurality of small panes or panels that are surrounded and held in planar array by sash bars. The resemblance to French-style windows is achieved by means of a remarkable trompe l'oeil effect that results when pseudo sash bar lattices are affixed in coincidental alignment on opposite sides of the panel. Also disclosed is a novel triple-glazed insulated panel wherein the insulating peripheral seal is protected by providing a central pane with slightly reduced height and width dimensions relative to those of the two outwardly facing panes.

  • Patent number: 4586306
Abstract: A window assembly includes a sash with rails and stiles that define an opening. Glazing closes the opening and a grille covers the glazing. A retaining strip releasably attaches the grille to the sash. The retaining strip extends along substantially the entire length of at least two opposite sides of the window opening and is mounted on the rail or stile closely adjacent to the glazing. The strip hardware has an elongate V-shape formed of two substantially flat arms which connect to each other at an acute angle. One of the arms of the retaining strip is adhesively mounted to the rail or stile surface, and the other of the arms, the free arm, has a ridge or arch formed in the distal end portion which engages a groove in the outer peripheral edge of the grille.

  • Patent number: 4583338
Abstract: A hollow door panel construction includes a rectangular frame of predetermined thickness assembled from side and end members defining an elongated enclosure. Within the enclosure are corrugated paperboard strips, having a width equal to the predetermined thickness. The strips are variously formed and attached to define a plurality of horizontal cell rows, vertically stacked to fill the framed volume. Each cell row spans the internal width of the frame, and includes a centrally positioned short-walled brace cell straddled on either side by a long-walled lateral cell. To complete the panel construction, thin sheets abut and are secured to the opposite faces of the frame and to the outer edges of the strips.
