  • Patent number: 9057535
Abstract: Methods and devices are presented that allow the harvest of electricity, heat and lighting simultaneously from a solar converter, often at less cost than conventional solar collectors. The converters use slats to intercept sunlight. Slat surfaces in the direct light path may be coated with photovoltaic (PV) material, or may be shaped to concentrate sunlight, allowing less PV material to capture reflected, concentrated light for improved economics. Forcing air flow past enclosed slats let the slats operate as PV heat sinks, heat absorbers, and heat exchangers capturing much of the solar energy that is not converted to electricity, as heat. Embodiments also allow passage of indirect light to supplement interior artificial lighting, often with positive aesthetic effects. These slatted apertures mitigate glare and overheating problems associated with typical skylights and some windows, allowing wider use as architectural elements.

Abstract: A PTAC louver assembly for glazing in a window wall which is field adjustable for fastening to a PTAC sleeves provided by different manufacturers. A unique system includes inwardly directed flanges which form a box within a box when mated to the PTAC sleeve. Sealant between the flanges and the PTAC sleeve provide a substantially water tight assembly. By sealing between the sleeve and the lower sill flange, the need to seal the sleeve face and to align weep holes in the PTAC sleeve is no longer necessary. Blank-off panels are filled with high temperature insulation which allows the louver system to be painted and baked after assembly. A unique louver blade assembly uses sliding retention bars with aligned notches to receive and capture louver blades using a clamping force.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an air conditioner cover having at least two posts, a plurality of slats, and a plurality of obstructions used to properly distance the slats from the ground. The air conditioner cover also has connectors disposed between said posts and said slats in some embodiments. The air conditioner cover is designed to surround an air conditioner unit in order to hide it from sight and to protect the air conditioner unit from various types of damage. The present invention is specifically designed to ensure appropriate ventilation, as the uniquely shaped slats have in order to provide a spacing gap for ventilation purposes, while still providing a barrier to the air conditioner unit.

Abstract: A building frame has multiple bars and two brace assemblies. Each bar is a straight rectangular bar and has a top surface and bottom surface and two mounting surfaces. The mounting surfaces may be indented surface respectively formed in the top and bottom surfaces of the bar. The brace assemblies are parallel with each other and each brace assembly has a primary brace and a secondary brace leant against the primary brace. The primary and secondary braces both have multiple mounting recesses being separately formed therein. Each mounting recess on the primary brace aligns with one mounting recess of the secondary brace. The mounting recesses of the primary brace and secondary brace correspond to and are engaged respectively the mounting surface of the top and bottom surfaces of one bar when the primary and secondary are alternatively moved.

Abstract: A rotating control mechanism of the shutter louver is disposed at a louver and includes an anchor, a bush, and a screw. The anchor has an opening end and a closed end, so as to form a first separating portion and a second separating portion respectively corresponding to a major axis in a radial direction of the louver. The bush has a cylinder portion neighboring to the frame and embedded in the counterbored hole of the frame, and an annular flange attached to the frame and the louver and/or the opening end of the anchor with both sides respectively. The screw passes through the counterbored hole and the bush in sequence to lock the anchor, such that the anchor moves towards the major axis direction of the louver and stops at a screw on an inner surface of the axial hole, so as to prevent the louver from cracking.

Abstract: A vent is formed from vent panels that can be formed by injection molding or vacuum forming. The vent panels include upper and lower edges. The upper edge includes a nailing flange and a channel. The channel is coplanar with the outer surface of a nailing flange. The lower edge is a linear flange adapted to fit within the channel of the next adjacent vent panel. The vent includes a lower trim member that has a flange and a channel coplanar with the upper surface of the flange and adapted to receive the bottom edge of a vent panel. The lower trim member is designed to attach to the upper edge of vinyl siding. J channels or T channels are used then to trim out the remaining portion of the vent. This allows one to form a custom vent by combining vent panels as desired.

The zigzag channels are defined by slats which are bent at least twice in alternating directions. The zigzag channels are divided into segments each having a cross-sectional width. The segments adjacent the air outlet face have a cross-sectional width less than any of the other segments along the channel. The slats are bent at certain angles which are larger than those of conventional security grills. Corners are created along each slat as a result of bending the slats in alternating directions.
