  • Patent number: 10844592
Abstract: A ground cover strip is provided for use with a modular home skirting system to provide ground cover for protecting the skirting system during grounds maintenance and for suppressing vegetation. The ground cover strip includes flexible straight and corner pieces laid end-to-end on the ground surface around a perimeter of the modular home. The ground cover strip has a bottom, an outer edge, an inner edge, and a top between the outer and inner edges. The top has an open channel formed therein which faces upwardly and receives a base of a ground channel member. The top also has an outer portion that slopes downwardly from the open channel to the outer edge. Anchoring spikes are driven through the base of the ground channel member and the ground cover strip and into the ground to anchor the ground cover strip and the ground channel member to the ground.

Abstract: A plurality of ventilation elements, vents, slots, or gap elements or similar features that are applied to, or machined into, one or more sides of exterior siding products, such as lap siding, panel siding, decorative trim, or other cladding materials. When the exterior siding product is installed, the ventilation elements, vents, slots, or gap elements or similar features provide a built-in air and water gap to facilitate and increase water drainage and air circulation behind the siding or panel, thereby minimizing water storage in the space behind the siding and lowering the equilibrium moisture content of the siding itself. The ventilation features are incorporated into the corresponding product in-line or during the manufacturing process, and do not require any further work during assembly or construction on-site (e.g., furring strips or other similar drainage mechanisms are not needed).

Abstract: Metal panel siding systems incorporate panel clips and cover. The panel clips are mounted in linear arrays to a wall. The cover comprises a plurality of elongated metal panels having lateral side laps and a show side. The side laps extend inward from the show side. The panel clips comprise a first catch engaging a side lap of a first panel and a second catch engaging a side lap of a second, adjacent the panel. Thus, the side laps provide vertical seams between the adjacent panels. The first catch of the panel clips is mounted to the wall. The second catch is coupled to the first catch for movement from an unset position to a set position. The second catch does not engage the side lap of the second panel in its unset position, and engages the side lap of the second panel in its set position.

Abstract: The invention relates to structural panel systems with at least a four-layered generally in-plane sidelap, at least a three layer generally in-plane sidelap, or corner sidelaps of various layers, and methods for manufacturing and assembling structural panel systems with these types of sidelaps. The structural panels may be provided with an edge having a “lower lip” with two layers, and an opposite edge having an “upper lip” with two layers. Individual panels may be coupled together by placing the upper lip of a first panel over the lower lip of an adjacent panel, thus creating an un-joined sidelap. The lips may have nested portions for helping to place one lip over the other. The panels may be operatively coupled through various couplings configurations, such as fasteners, welding, cutting the sidelap, or the like. Abstract: A solar insert for shingled roofs includes an insert with a generally wedge-shaped body designed to be installed beneath a shingle and a face that is exposed and extends along a lower edge of the shingle. The face preferably is angled with respect to the shingle and a solar collector in the form of a thin-film solar strip is mounted to and extends along the face. The inserts of multiple shingles are electrically coupled together to form an electrical grid for aggregating the electrical energy of the individual solar collectors and delivering it to a remote location for storage or use. In a second embodiment, a shingle has a solar collector strip mounted to its surface extending along a forward edge of the shingle, and in another, the solar collector surrounds the tabs of their shingles. The solar collectors not only generate electrical energy from the sun; they also enhance the appearance of a shingled roof by providing a look of increased thickness and texture.

  • Patent number: 8448401
Abstract: A combined thermal insulation barrier and installation guide for fiber cement siding. A rectangular insulating board has a flat, rectangular back surface, and a front surface shaped to form a number of flat-faced, protruding ridges, aligned parallel to an edge of the rectangle. The cross-section, taken orthogonal to the ridges has a saw-tooth shape. When a standard-size, fiber cement plank is placed face-down on a face of a ridge with its edge abutting the short face of an adjacent ridge, and a second board is placed face-down on an adjacent ridge, the second board overlaps first board and lies flat on the first board. Once the shaped insulating board is aligned to a required orientation, and attached on a building surface, it serves as a positioning guide for attaching fiber cement boards. Left in the siding, the shaped, insulating board acts as insulation throughout the life of the siding.

Abstract: A modular system for cladding exterior walls of a structure and insulating the structure walls provides thermally isolated vertical girders secured to a structural wall. The thermally isolated vertical girders positionally maintain insulation adjacent the structure and provide a means for mounting exterior wall cladding to the structure. Planar wall panels carrying exterior wall cladding elements mount directly or indirectly to the vertical girders. Corner elements, carrying exterior corner cladding elements interconnect with the underlying system and visually appear to interconnect with adjacent edge portions of the planar wall panels.
