The panel's edge may be provided with a C-shaped metal channel for more securely attaching the panel to the structural member by means of nails or screws driven through opposed ends of the tape strip and into the metal channel within the panel.

Abstract: A sound attenuating wall or ceiling assembly includes: a plurality of wall or ceiling boards; a series of parallel spaced apart, elongated framing members; and a series of elongated sound attenuating members extending along the length of the framing members, secured to the framing members and securing the boards to the framing members. Each of the sound attenuating members has a resilient cantilevered portion to which the boards are secured. The cantilevered portion of each sound attenuating member extends from the framing member to which the sound attenuating member is secured both outward away from the framing member and toward an adjacent framing member whereby the boards are resiliently secured to the framing members and spaced outwardly from the framing members to attenuate sound.

Abstract: A wall panel supporting unit and system of constructing a wall utilizing a series of the wall panel supporting units in place of a traditional stud wall. The individual wall panel supporting units are of unitary construction and are generally rectangular. The units are corrugated and the resulting ridges function in the same manner as individual studs in a traditional wall, by creating a space within the wall for insulation, electrical wiring and similar uses. The individual units are fastened together, and attached to parallel tracks along the ceiling and floor to ensure a straight wall when panel sheathing such as drywall is applied. The individual units generally conform to each other when stacked together and offer a significant reduction in required shipping space.

Abstract: A steel framed building construction (50) includes external wall frames (52, 54) and internal wall frames (57, 58) which support one or more planar ceiling frames (56). A roof structure includes one or more substantially planar roof frames (76, 78) extending substantially parallel to associated roof surfaces which the roof frames support. The roof structure further includes support means (70, 74) extending between the roof frames (76, 78) and the ceiling frames (56) to transfer the weight of the roof structure to the ceiling frames (56) to thereby distribute the combined weight of the roof structure and the ceiling frames (56) and the support means (70, 74) through the external and internal wall frames (52, 54, 57, 58). A new roof structure is also claimed. A construction methodology whereby the wall frames, the roof frames and the roof support frames are all constructed from the same steel section is also claimed.

Abstract: This invention relates to an improved wall for resisting lateral forces imposed on a building that incorporates the wall. Specifically, this invention relates to a wall in a light-frame building having within it a sub-component specifically designed to resist lateral forces imposed on the building such as those caused by an earthquake or by wind loading. The wall is formed with a bottom plate that rests on the underlying structural component of the building. A plurality of vertically-disposed studs connect to the bottom plate, and a top plate is supported by and connects to the vertically-disposed studs. A shear-resisting assembly connects to the top plate and the underlying structural component. The shear-resisting assembly has top and bottom struts and first and second chords and a planar shear resisting element connected thereto.
