  • Publication number: 20150121784
Abstract: The present invention relates to a reinforced-concrete foundation system for erecting superstructures that transmit high axial loads, shearing forces and/or flexural moments at individual points, such as, for example, wind turbines. The foundation that is the subject matter of the present invention is formed by an upper reinforced-concrete slab poured “in situ”, of polygonal or circular footprint, and which is made rigid at the bottom by means of reinforced-concrete ribs of rectangular or trapezial cross section which are arranged radially. The method makes provision for said ribs to be produced from concrete “in situ” or, alternatively, by means of prefabricated elements, always working, jointly with the upper slab. This new foundation considerably reduces the costs of forming traditional foundations for this type of superstructure, by considerably improving completion deadlines.

Abstract: Support members for heliostats (or other components installed in a field) can be hollow and thin-walled, for example, to reduce construction and/or material costs. However, such support members may be relatively fragile and susceptible to buckling or other damage when driven into relatively rocky and/or hard-packed soil using pile-driving. To avoid damaging the support members, the soil may be pre-conditioned to loosen the soil prior to insertion of the support member therein. An auger can drill a hole in the soil and then be reversed such that soil remains in and/or is subsequently re-introduced into the hole after removal of the auger, thereby leaving a substantially loosened column of soil in the hole. Vibration hammering can cause temporary liquefaction of the soil around the support member to insert the support member into the column of soil while reducing the potential for damage to the support member.

Abstract: An improved mounting structure for the posts of hand rail systems including a mounting arm member positioned within a sleeve monolithically formed within the inner chamber of the post. The sleeve includes a slit that allows for the outflow of water, thereby limiting corrosion and degrading of the post and mounting structure. A secure fit limits the amount of liquid trapped within the sleeve reducing corrosion. The mounting arm has smaller dimensions, reducing the chances that the arm comes into contact with support rods embedded within the concrete during installation. By avoiding contact with the support rods, concrete spalling is dramatically reduced, adding to the lifetime of the rail system.

In one embodiment, the base may have an outer periphery that increases or varies along the base and wherein a foundation of curable material is formed over at least a portion of the base whereby the column, the base, and the foundation are mechanically locked together to resist lateral, torsional, and/or upwardly directed vertical forces.

  • Patent number: 8528296
Abstract: A method of installing a modular structure foundation system that requires no heavy equipment, minimal site preparation, and can be easily assembled by a small crew. The foundation consists of a number of box bar joists that are square units which are assembled based on a grid layout. The box bar joists are supported by foundation steel columns that are embedded into the ground. No forms or other complex structures are needed for the installation. Once the columns are installed, the box bar joists are installed using a unique leveling system. Once the box bar joists are level and secured to the columns, the foundation is complete. The use of the box bar joists also allows for expansion or contraction as additional box bar joists can easily be added or removed from the foundation. Once the box bar joists are in place, the foundation is ready for building.

Abstract: This improved method of forming a foundation uses a dynamic leveling foundation and method uses a prelevel coplanar support while installing permanent foundation. This improved method starts when a manufactured house arrives at the permanent site. The manufactured house has flooring assembly supported on its underside by horizontal parallel beams or joists that needs firmly grounded foundation support. The temporary support step provides a temporary level support for the manufactured house. When the temporary support is established, the house arrives from the factory. The preferred temporary support is a temporary tripod support system that may be installed under the sidewalls and the mate line. The tripod support system comprises multiple tripods each having a triangular transverse frame to support an extended undercarriage area. Each tripod makes at least two separate supporting abutments with its overlying perimeter joist or mate line joist which reduces total labor time.

  • Patent number: 8347584
Abstract: A structural column assembly of the type used for erecting building structures and the like is bedded in a concrete footing formed in situ in an earthen hole. The column assembly includes a post whose bottom end is suspended above a floor of the hole by a stilt. The stilt includes a plurality of legs which extend from the post's bottom end and grip the hole floor through a plurality of cleats. The cleats help stabilize the column assembly during the concrete pour operation so that it does not shift out of position. The stilt legs are provided with a base pad, which is set below the bottom end of the post at a predetermined distance so that the concrete footing can be poured in a single operation immediately after the hole is formed. The stilt can accommodate posts made from wood, pre-cast concrete or any other known construction material. The stilts can be manufactured from formed flat steel or commercially available angle iron and channel stock.
