Patent number: 7316098Abstract: The present invention is a framing component interconnecting device that is particularly useful for interconnecting a spanning member and its supporting components. While the device may be used in a number of ways to facilitate frame construction, the preferred mode of use is to pre-attach it at the bearing points of a spanning member during pre-assembly of the spanning member. Because the device is not obtrusive while it is in what is referred to herein as a “non-deployed configuration,” the device thus attached to a spanning member does not hinder or complicate storing, transporting, and handling the spanning member. The device incorporates an anchor strap and connecting flaps that can be deployed in order to interconnect the spanning member to its supporting component once the spanning member has been raised into position. In its deployed configuration, the device anchors, orients, braces, and interconnects one framing component to another.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2004Date of Patent: January 8, 2008Inventor: Gerald L. The saddle connects the top web and base web, and forms a cradle for the bottom of the rafter. The angled saddle avoids any demolition of frieze boards or trim on the house, making for effortless installation. The connector is easily installed by a homeowner on existing houses with the saddle clasping the rafter and outside sheathing.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1998Date of Patent: July 20, 2004Inventor: Thomas C. Publication number: 20040107653Abstract: A building roof tie for attaching roof trusses and rafters to wood top plates in building structures, such roof tie having a sheet metal body with risers and a bridge for overlapping a rafter and flaps for wrapping on the sides of the top plate. A generally triangular shaped reinforcing wing provides strength and stability, and can also provide additional hold-down strength, allowing the roof tie to be manufactured from different weights of steel. Turnbuckles attached to the bridge provide additional hold-down strength against increased uplift forces. The roof ties are pitched to conform to a variety of framing applications. A plurality of apertures is formed in the roof tie to provide openings for fasteners for connecting the tie to the wood top plate and rafter.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2003Publication date: June 10, 2004Inventor: Anthony D. Publication number: 20040079034Abstract: A connector and method of using the connector for making a structural connection between two structural members joined at an angle. The connector is bent in the field to allow the connector to be used in both left-hand and right-hand connections. The connector is preferably formed from metal with an integral gusset at the longitudinal line of juncture. The connector is preferably attached to the structural members by a plurality of fasteners. The gusset reinforces the connection against forces acting perpendicular to the longitudinal line of juncture and the plurality of fasteners reinforce the connection against angular displacement of the structural members perpendicular to the longitudinal line of juncture.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2002Publication date: April 29, 2004Inventor: William F. Patent number: 6718698Abstract: An improved hurricane and earthquake connector for buildings that has a solid front face as a fire-stop, and lower part for attachment to the top plate or wall sheathing of a wall. Attached to either side of the front face are perpendicular rafter tabs for connection to adjacent roof rafters. Below the rafter tabs are double bends, spacers, and plate tabs for attachment to the top of the top plate. The double bends and spacers allow the front face to completely block the opening between adjacent rafters and the roof and top plate, even on houses having different heel heights between the roof arid top plate. Above the rafter tabs are perpendicular sheathing tabs that can attach to the roof with bolts. Along side the sheathing tabs are gussets, parallel and planer to the rafter webs, for additional strength. Bolts can connect the roof tie from above the roof to adjacent connectors effectively tying down the roof to the rafters, and top plate.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2001Date of Patent: April 13, 2004Inventor: Thomas C Thompson
