Isomerization can also be accomplished thermally by mixing nitrogen dioxide into a sufficiently heated solution of polybutadiene and maintaining the mixture at an elevated temperature for a sufficient period of time to increase the trans-polybutadiene content of the polymer. The resulting polybutadiene is recovered, mixed with other additives as desired and formed into one or more portions of a golf ball.

    Abstract: Pressure sensitive adhesives that cure to a high cohesive strength at room and elevated temperatures, and a method for making such adhesives, are provided. Despite the presence of titanium dioxide or other pigments, the compounded copolymers are UV-cured to a high cohesive strength through the combination of tertiary amine functional groups and hydrogen-abstracting photoinitiators, which form synergistic pairs when irradiated, leading to free radical formation and polymer cross-linking.

    Abstract: Vinyl monomers are polymerized in the presence of bi(phosphine oxides) and bi(phosphine sulfides) which can function as photoinitiators and chain transfer agents in the polymerization of vinyl monomers. The incorporation of such organo-phosphorous compounds into such polymers either as an integral part thereof, or as an admixture, results in improved thermal stability of the polymers.
