Patent number: 5534570Abstract: This invention relates to polyester/plasticizer blends which are useful as heat-shrinkable films or sheet in low temperature shrink packaging applications. The plasticizer is injected into the melt of the polyester. The plasticizer lowers the glass transition temperature, on-set temperature and shrink rate of the polyester. Film or sheet produced by the polyester/plasticizer blends is clear.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1995Date of Patent: July 9, 1996Assignee: Eastman Chemical CompanyInventors: Wayne K. Shih, Ronald R. Patent number: 5534575Abstract: Hot melt adhesives which include at least 5% of a thermoplastic elastomer block copolymer having a Vicat softening temperature of at least 60.degree. C. and a melting point of at least 100.degree. C., have improved thermal resistance properties and can be applied with conventional hot melt application equipment at temperatures of between about 149.degree. C. and about 204.degree. C. The adhesives are particularly suited to use in above-the-belt locations in automobile interiors and in furniture bonding. Especially suitable thermoplastic elastomers are polyether-polyester and polyether-polyamide segmented polymers with melting points above 149.degree. C. Hot melt adhesives based on these thermoplastic elastomers can be formulated to provide a range of properties including pressure sensitive properties and contact adhesive properties.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1995Date of Patent: July 9, 1996Assignee: H. Patent number: 5532300Abstract: A specific class of water-borne, water redispersible laminating adhesives is disclosed which is desirable for bonding nonwoven substrates to themselves or to other substrates. The adhesives provide improved bond strength and improved water redispersibility when compared to laminating adhesives currently used for the same purpose. Furthermore, the novel adhesives are much less sensitive to the presence of significant levels of plasticizer than are laminating adhesives currently used, which exhibit reduced water redispersibility when such plasticizers are present in significant amounts. The novel laminating adhesives contain an aqueous styrene/acrylic polymer dispersion prepared by radical-initiated emulsion polymerization of unsaturated monomers in the presence of starch degradation products having a weight average molecular weight range of from about 2500 to 25000 and which are obtainable by hydrolysis in the aqueous phase.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1994Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: National Starch and Chemical Investment Holding CorporationInventors: Timothy C. Koubek, Paul P. Puletti, Joseph Wieczorek, Jr.
