  • Patent number: 8957247
Abstract: In pretreating a pyridine ring-containing chelate resin which is used in the step for adsorption and collection of a heavy metal ion and a bromide ion derived from a catalyst from the oxidation reaction mother liquid in the process of producing an aromatic carboxylic acid, there may occur phenomena such as swelling of the resin, heat generation of the resin, and air bubbles generation, thereby causing fracture and deterioration of the resin. As a first treatment, Br? conversion, under a certain condition, of a pyridine ring-containing chelate resin with an aqueous solution of hydrobromic acid is performed, and then as a second treatment, replacement with acetic acid solvent is performed, thereby making it possible to prevent fracture and deterioration of the resin.

  • Patent number: 8946348
Abstract: Various processes and methods are disclosed for incorporating polyvinyl alcohol additives into products. In one embodiment, polyvinyl alcohol particles are dissolved in a solvent without the use of external heat to form a polyvinyl alcohol solution for incorporation into a product. In an alternative embodiment, polyvinyl alcohol particles are directly incorporated into a starch-based adhesive composition. Through the processes of the present disclosure, solid polyvinyl alcohol particles can be delivered directly to a manufacturing facility where the product that incorporates the polyvinyl alcohol additive is being made or formulated. In this manner, since the polyvinyl alcohol particles are not predissolved, the costs associated with shipping and transporting the polyvinyl alcohol product are greatly reduced.

  • Patent number: 8937141
Abstract: The present invention provides curable compositions comprising non-Sn organo-metal catalysts that accelerate the condensation curing of moisture curable silicones/non-silicones. In particular, the present invention provides Mn(III) complexes that are particularly suitable as replacements for organotin for sealant and RTV formulations. The Mn(III) complexes are comparable or superior to organotin such as DBTDL, superior to Mn(II) compounds, and exhibit certain behavior in the presence of components that allow for tuning or adjusting the cure characteristics of the present compositions and provide good adhesion and storage stability.

  • Patent number: 8933169
Abstract: The invention relates to pulverulent core/shell polymers for the preparation of a plastisol, which have surprisingly low water absorption. The invention further relates to the plastisol pastes which are prepared from these polymers and likewise have low water absorption and additionally possess good storage stability, good mechanical properties and good plasticizer compatibility. The core/shell polymers consist of latex particles having a primary particle size of at least 250 nm, the core consisting of methyl methacrylate, (meth)acrylic esters with C2 to C8 or aromatic alcohol radicals and optionally further monomers, and the shells(s) comprising, in addition to these components, also amides of (meth)acrylic acid and/or amine-substituted alkyl esters of (meth)acrylic acid.
