In one embodiment, a composition comprising an alkylphenol resin can be prepared by condensing at least one phenolic monomer selected from the group consisting of phenol, cresol, resorcinol, xylenol, ethyl phenol, alkylresorcinols, and combinations thereof; and at least one alkyl aldehyde having from 5 to 12 carbon atom alkyl groups. The alkylphenol resins of the application are free of octylphenol or nonylphenol monomers. In one embodiment, the alkylphenol resins may be prepared using formaldehyde, and alternatively, in another embodiment, the alkylphenol resins may be prepared without the use of formaldehyde. The process to make these new alternative alkylphenol resins is a cost effective process and easy to scale-up.

Abstract: An additive elastomeric manufactured part having improved surface finish is made by repeatedly extruding through a nozzle to build up layers of a material comprised of a prepolymer comprised of an isocyanate terminated prepolymer and a filler in an amount such that the material has a shear storage modulus G? of 100,000 to 300,000 Pa measured at an oscillation rate of 1 Hz and a relaxation time of 20 seconds to 360 seconds. It has been discovered that the particular material having these rheological properties is able to improve the surface finish of the additive manufactured part without slumping and is believed to be due to surface flow of material into valleys between the extrudates as they are being built up.

Abstract: Polymeric interlayers for use in making multiple layer panels having a unique balance of properties are provided. Single and multiple layer interlayers according to various embodiments of the present invention can be used to form multiple layer panels that exhibit both enhanced rigidity and improved impact resistance, while still retaining desirable optical performance. Interlayers and multiple layer panels of the present invention may be particularly suitable for use in a wide range of applications, including, for example, in many indoor and outdoor architectural and structural applications.

The coatings are made from environmentally friendly materials such as polylactic acid which can be derived from corn. The materials can be used to provide a protective coating on their substrate materials including especially wood for flooring and furniture. The coatings can have a hardness as measured on the Shore D Scale that can reach at least 75 to about 85 and enhanced resistance to abrasions, impact or scratches and can be used to coat flooring or furniture surfaces. The coatings can contain from about 1 to about 10 mass percent of triallyl isocyanurate with respect to polylactic acid.
