  • Patent number: 4499220
Abstract: Copolymer light stabilizers are provided having at least one 2,2,6,6-tetraalkyl piperidyl group in the molecule and a molecular weight within the range from about 1000 to about 20,000, that are copolymers of a maleic or fumaric acid ester containing a 2,2,6,6-tetraalkyl piperidyl group in the alcohol group of the formula: ##STR1## wherein ##STR2## R.sub.2 is alkyl or R.sub.1 ; X is ##STR3## R.sub.6 is lower alkyl; R.sub.3 is hydrogen or alkyl;R.sub.4 is hydrogen or methyl;R.sub.5 is alkylene;Y is ##STR4## R.sub.7 is alkylene; and at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of aliphatic carboxylic acid vinyl ester having from two to eight carbon atoms; alkyl vinyl ethers having from one to eighteen carbon atoms; triallyl isocyanurate; pinene; and tricyclo-(5.2.1.0.sup.2.6)-decene-3; and synthetic resin compositions having improved light stability comprising per 100 parts by weight of resin from 0.001 to 5 parts by weight of the polymeric light stabilizer.

  • Patent number: 4459375
Abstract: An improved resin coated sand for use in foundry shell-molding applications is disclosed which has increased resistance to thermal shock at the time of pouring. The improved product uses a phenolic resin as binder with aromatic compounds selected from the following generic formulae: ##STR1## The foundry aggregates are mixed with the phenolic resin and organic compounds under conventional mixing conditions to form a sand-resin mixture that can be formed into shell-molds. Upon casting the molten metal into these molds, the abrupt thermal expansion of the coated sand is controlled to eliminate the cracking that occurs when conventional phenolic-sand mixtures are employed.

  • Patent number: 4412025
Abstract: A non-volatile, anti-gel compound having a chain of at least about 5 repeat units of an alkylene oxide and which is soluble in olefin polymers, and an inorganic anti-block agent having a substantially neutral pH are added to a film grade transition metal catalyzed resin containing halide residues such as Ziegler-Natta catalyzed olefin polymer compositions to prevent: (1) gel streaking/pinstriping during film extrusion processes; (2) blocking of the extruded film; and (3) discoloration of the extruded film upon aging. The anti-gel compound has a molecular weight between about 200 and about 4,000,000 Daltons.
