  • Patent number: 7420009
Abstract: Described is a low-emission adhesive, whose polymers are dissolved in a mixture of acetone and ethanol. The adhesive is characterized by very low emissions of solvents, with otherwise equally good properties compared to standard solvent-synthetic resin based adhesives. In particular with respect to viscosity and spreadability, surface tension, depth of penetration, wettability, simplicity and speed of processing, as well as adhesion, gluing strength and adhesive spectrum, the adhesive of the invention is equal to other adhesives based on solvents and thus superior to dispersion-adhesives that are based on aqueous solutions. Due to its low solvent emissions and absence of chlorinated solvents, the present adhesive is suitable for applications for which only dispersion-adhesives that are based on aqueous dispersions were reserved until now. This is true in particular for applications in enclosed spaces. The adhesive is very suitable for gluing of wooden floors in internal construction work.

  • Patent number: 6737469
Abstract: The present invention is a method of incorporating a water insoluble organic chemical into a styrene-butadiene rubber latex dispersion and the resulting styrene-butadiene rubber latex dispersion. A styrene-butadiene rubber latex dispersion is provided comprising an aqueous phase and a disperse phase, with the disperse phase including particles of styrene-butadiene rubber. An organic solvent that is miscible in water and the water insoluble organic chemical are added together to the styrene-butadiene rubber latex dispersion. The addition of the water-miscible organic solvent allows the water insoluble organic chemical to pass from the aqueous phase into the disperse phase thus limiting separation of the water insoluble organic chemical from the latex dispersion. The resulting SBR latex has increased properties over conventional latices that use the same amount of the water insoluble organic chemical but that do not include the water-miscible organic solvent.

  • Patent number: 5824724
Abstract: A microencapsulatable solvent adhesive composition for coupling plastic conduits, such as pipes, connectors and related fittings comprises a water-insoluble polymer and a mixture of volatile organic solvents for the polymer, each of the solvents having 6 to 40 carbon atoms. This solvent adhesive composition is suitable for microencapsulation by aqueous-based microencapsulation processes. A plurality of microcapsules encapsulating the solvent adhesive composition are bound to a polymeric surface of a conduit, such as a pipe connector or fitting, by a binder composition, to form a surface coated with a layer of rupturable microcapsules. When the microcapsules are ruptured upon joining of the coated conduit to a second conduit, the volume of the released solvent adhesive composition is sufficient to cement the surfaces together.
