  • Patent number: 8822580
Abstract: Custom-tinted paints and stains are made using an array of low VOC concentrated liquid colorants including at least at least white colorant; black colorant; and green-hued, blue-hued and red-hued primary colorants at least one of which primary colorants comprises polyalkylene glycol humectant, ethoxylated surfactant and extender pigment. For colorants in the array containing polyalkylene glycol humectant, the humectant and ethoxylated surfactant amounts are sufficiently high and extender pigment amount is sufficiently low so that the colorants will not problematically plug colorant dispenser orifices if left in the dispenser without an orifice cap for a full day. The polyalkylene glycol humectant is also present in an amount sufficiently low so that dried paint films made by mixing the colorants with a clear waterborne base paint will resist blocking.

  • Patent number: 8779074
Abstract: A silicone emulsion composition is provided comprising organopolysiloxane, organohydrogenpolysiloxane, surfactant, and water. Two organopolysiloxanes of different type are blended, whereby a cured silicone coating is improved to be fully adherent to plastic film and lightly peelable from pressure-sensitive adhesive. By limiting the SiH content of organohydrogenpolysiloxane, the composition is improved in shelf stability. A specific surfactant is used to control the size of emulsion particles so as to improve wettability to plastic film.

  • Patent number: 8735478
Abstract: The present invention relates to an aqueous coating material containing polymer (I), colloidal silica (II), and nonionic surfactant (III) with an HLB value of 16 or more. The polymer (I) is obtained by copolymerization of monomer mixture (M) that contains 0.2 to 10% by mass of monomer (a) having two or more radically polymerizable groups. The solid content of the colloidal silica (II) is 0.1 to 20 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the polymer (I). The content of the nonionic surfactant (III) is 0.01 to 10 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the polymer (I). The present invention also relates to a painted article where the aqueous coating material is applied. Therefore, an aqueous coating material and a painted article capable of expressing stain resistance and weather resistance can be provided by reducing a water contact angle.
