Abstract: A coating composition in which the binder contains the following:(1) an acrylic polymer having pendent hydroxyl containing ester groups and(2) a polyisocyanate which has the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.4 is a hydrocarbon group having 6 carbon atoms. The composition can be used as an unpigmented clear finish or can contain convention pigments and be used as a colored finish. The composition is useful for refinishing trucks and automobiles and as an original finish for trucks, automobiles, boats, outdoor equipment and the like since the resulting finish is glossy, durable and weatherable.
Abstract: A printing ink or varnish having a binder comprising isopropylmethacrylate and hydrophilic comonomers, particularly unsaturated carboxylic acids, their hydroxyalkyl esters, or a mixture thereof; preferably in combination with cellulose esters such as nitrocellulose, as an additional binder. The ink or varnish also contains dissolved or undissolved dyes, as well as a lower alkyl alcohol solvent. The printing and coatings thus produced are characterized by hardness and a high sealing stability.
Abstract: The coating composition useful as the exterior finish on automobiles and trucks contains about 25-50% by weight of a binder of film-forming constituents and 50-75% by weight of a volatile organic solvent carrier and additionally contains 2-150% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of pigment; the binder is about 20-70% by weight of an acrylic polymer containing reactive hydroxyl, carboxyl, amide groups or any mixture of such groups, about 0-40% by weight of a hydroxy-terminated polyester urethane resin and about 25-40% by weight of an alkylated melamine formaldehyde crosslinking resin; in addition the composition contains about 4-20% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of a rheology control agent of an alcohol soluble cellulose acetate butyrate having a buryryl content of about 45-50% by weight, a hydroxyl content of about 4-5% by weight and a viscosity of about 0.2-0.4 second.
Abstract: Water-insoluble, high water-absorbent polymer beads are prepared by dispersing and suspending an aqueous solution of a water-soluble, ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing a small amount of a crosslinking agent in a dispersion medium of a hydrocarbon or a halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon, carrying out the bead polymerization in the presence of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator and a protecting colloid comprising a cellulose ester or cellulose ether which is oil-soluble at the polymerization temperature, and separating the resulting beads.
Abstract: A cellulose derivative-containing emulsion composition which is the product of emulsion polymerization of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of a water-solubilized product of a cellulose derivative-modified vinyl copolymer having an acid value of from about 3 to about 150, said vinyl copolymer being obtained by copolymerizing a cellulose derivative with an ethylenically unsaturated monomeric component composed of an ethylenically unsaturated acid and another ethylenically unsaturated monomer.
Abstract: The present invention relates to release coatings which comprise cellulosic esters or cellulosic ethers in combination with adhesion-promoting compounds having an affinity for vinyl chloride-containing compositions. The release coatings maintain their adherence characteristics during processing of the structure in which they are disposed, but substantially lose their adherence characteristics when said structure is fused, thereby becoming easily separable from the resulting product.
Abstract: An acrylic coating composition suitable for use as an automotive refinish lacquer comprises a mixture of(a) a solution in volatile organic solvent of an acrylic copolymer of 75-90% methyl methacrylate, 1.5-6.0% dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and 8-23.5% of butyl acrylate, butyl methacrylate or lauryl methacrylate, the copolymer having a Tg of 80.degree.-95.degree. C.;(b) a solution in volatile organic solvent of cellulose acetate butyrate, the cellulose acetate butyrate having a viscosity of 0.5-5 sec and a hydroxyl value of 2 maximum; and(c) a monomeric ester plasticizersuch that the non-volatile constituents of (a), (b) and (c) comprise respectively 43.5-64.0%, 15.0-25.5% and 21.0-31.5% of the total weight of non-volatile material of (a) plus (b) plus (c).

Abstract: A coating composition adapted for repairing a damaged coating on a substrate comprises as the binder a mixture of a polyacrylate, an acrylated alkyd resin and a cellulose ester which form 100 percent of the binder. The coating composition is particularly well suited for use in preparing damaged paint on a motor vehicle body. The binder may be mixed with a volatile inert organic solvent for the binder in making the composition. The composition has a higher solids content than composition usually used for repairing damaged coatings and much thicker layers of the coating composition may be applied. By mixing the components of the binder in the ratio of 10 to 60 parts by weight of polyacrylate to 30 to 75 parts by weight of acrylated alkyd resin and 5 to 45 parts by weight cellulose ester to form the binder a coating composition having reduced tendency to crack and of improved solids content is obtained.
Abstract: A process for the production of a thermoplastically processible polymer granulate or powder containing from 0.01 to 50%, by weight, of burr-shaped or fibrous, doped polyacetylene, in which a plastics material and the doped polyacetylene particles are mixed in the presence of an inert suspending liquid and said liquid is removed.
